AML Audit Manager

Job summary

The AML audit manager is responsible for leading anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), and targeted financial sanctions (TFS) audit engagements. The role involves planning, supervising, and delivering risk-based internal audits to assess the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls in line with applicable regulatory requirements and international auditing standards.

The position requires strong leadership, extensive regulatory knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple audit engagements while providing strategic recommendations to strengthen the AML compliance framework.

Key responsibilities

Audit planning & management

  • Lead the planning, execution, and reporting of AML and compliance audit engagements.
  • Develop comprehensive risk-based audit plans and audit programs.
  • Ensure audit engagements are completed within agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Review and approve audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal audit standards and audit methodology.

AML & regulatory compliance audits

Lead and oversee audits covering:

  • AML/CTF framework
  • Business risk assessment (BRA)
  • Targeted financial sanctions (TFS)
  • Customer due diligence (CDD)
  • Enhanced due diligence (EDD)
  • Know your customer (KYC)
  • Transaction monitoring
  • Sanctions and name screening
  • Suspicious transaction reporting
  • AML governance
  • AML policies and procedures
  • Regulatory reporting obligations
  • Compliance with applicable AML, CTF, and sanctions regulations

Risk assessment

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of enterprise AML risk assessment
  • Customer, product, service, geographic, and delivery channel risk assessments
  • Risk identification and mitigation processes
  • Control design and operating effectiveness
  • Residual risk assessment methodology

Audit reporting

  • Review audit findings and ensure observations are supported by sufficient evidence
  • Assess root causes and recommend practical corrective actions
  • Prepare executive-level audit reports
  • Present audit results to senior management
  • Monitor remediation plans and validate implementation

Leadership & stakeholder management

  • Lead and mentor audit team members
  • Allocate audit resources and monitor engagement progress
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching
  • Build effective relationships with business and control functions
  • Support continuous improvement of audit methodologies and practices

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, risk management, or a related discipline
  • Master's degree is preferred

Professional certifications (preferred)

  • Certified internal auditor (CIA)
  • Certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS)
  • Certified fraud examiner (CFE)
  • CPA or ACCA
  • ICA diploma or advanced certificate in AML
  • Other relevant audit or compliance certifications

Experience requirements

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience in internal audit, AML, compliance, risk management, or regulatory audit
  • Extensive experience leading AML audit engagements
  • Strong knowledge of AML/CTF regulations, sanctions, and risk assessment frameworks
  • Experience managing audit teams and stakeholder relationships
