Application Engineer // Contract

We are looking for an experienced Application Engineer to join a large, complex digital environment and play a key role in the design, development and delivery of enterprise applications.

This is a hands-on technical position suited to someone who can operate across application design, architecture and development, while working closely with solution architects, product teams, developers, vendors and other technical stakeholders.

Previous experience working within Local, State or Federal Government is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Create Technical Detailed Designs and provide input into Application Architecture and high-level solution designs.
  
• Assess the technical viability of proposed designs and recommend alternative approaches, considering security, performance, scalability and reuse.
  
• Provide hands-on development of common utilities and complex application functions, while acting as an escalation point for challenging technical issues.
  
• Perform code reviews and ensure solutions meet agreed development standards, quality requirements and documentation expectations.
  
• Provide technical leadership across frontend and backend application architecture and promote development best practices.
  
• Establish and maintain programming standards, tools and techniques across development teams.
  
• Work with product and technical teams to assess requirements, technical feasibility and application architecture options.
  
• Identify opportunities to improve software development processes and support the efficient delivery of high-quality releases.
  
• Coordinate application readiness across development, integration, testing, environments, vendors, release activities and operational support teams.
  

About You

You will bring strong application engineering and development experience within complex enterprise environments, along with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical, scalable solutions.

Ideally, you will have:

• Demonstrated experience working within Local, State or Federal Government environments.
  
• Strong application development experience across JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js and Java/Spring Boot.
  
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, APIs, integrations and application infrastructure.
  
• Strong understanding of cloud environments, CI/CD, testing, deployment and operational support.
  
• Experience designing, building, maintaining, migrating and supporting complex applications.
  
• Strong knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment, hypercare and BAU transition.
  
• Experience working across multiple technical teams, vendors and implementation partners.
  
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly.
