CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Buckelew Programs is a leading provider of behavioral healthcare services in the North Bay, providing compassionate mental health, supported housing and substance use treatment.We are hiring a new CFO to join our team. As CFO, you will be responsible for the overall financial management of the organization, ensuring effective operations in finance, accounting, and related functions. This role includes planning, implementing, and overseeing all financial activities in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. The CFO serves as a strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, maintains strong relationships with the Board of Directors, funders, and financial institutions, and plays a key role in guiding the agency’s long-term success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Serve on the Agency’s Senior Management Team and contribute to agency-wide strategy and decision-making.
  • Lead the development, monitoring, and evaluation of short- and long-term financial and operational objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning and implementation, ensuring alignment with the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, learning, and accountability across programs.
  • Lead annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and financial planning processes, including budgets for proposals and contracts.
  • Act as primary financial liaison with government agencies, foundations, and funding sources.
  • Represent the agency at community forums and maintain strong external relationships.
  • Support the professional growth of staff through training, consultation, and participation in internal and external learning opportunities.

Financial Oversight

  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Oversee accounting, auditing, and internal controls to ensure compliance with contracts, grants, and contributions.
  • Collaborate with the People Team to ensure accurate payroll and benefits administration.
  • Manage annual audit, Form 990, and other required federal and state filings.
  • Oversee banking and insurance relationships, ensuring adequate coverage and collaborating with the COO on claims.
  • Prepare and present financial statements and reports for the Board of Directors, funders, and regulators.
  • Direct cost accounting and financial studies, analyzing their impact on agency policies and operations.

Reporting & Supervision

  • Directly supervise the Senior Accounting Manager and Finance & Accounting teams including hiring, training, motivating, evaluating, and performance management.
  • Encourages professional growth for staff within the departments
