Commodity Sales - Brazil - Vice President

The Commodities Salesperson is a strategic professional who stays abreast of developments within their own field and contributes to directional strategy by considering their application in their own job and the business. Recognized as a technical authority for an area within the business, this role requires deep commercial awareness and a proven track record of originating and executing complex commodity risk management solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience advising and structuring risk management solutions for corporate clients across key commodity-intensive sectors, including airlines, refineries, sugar mills, mining companies, oil and gas producers, and agricultural/grain processors. They must demonstrate an expert-level understanding of OTC derivatives, corporate risk management, and global exchange rules (e.g., CME, ICE, LME).

Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to guide, influence, and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and external customers. This role has a significant impact on the area through complex deliverables, providing advice and counsel related to the technology, operations, and market execution of the business. Work impacts the entire commodities area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the Global Markets sub-function.



Responsibilities:

  • Sector-Focused Origination: Originate and execute meaningful and landmark transactions with corporate clients, specifically targeting risk management and hedging needs within key sectors:
    • Energy & Transportation: Airlines (jet fuel hedging), Refineries (crack spreads, crude/product hedging), and Oil & Gas producers (upstream/downstream hedging).
    • Agriculture & Softs: Sugar mills, grain producers, processors, and trade houses.
    • Metals & Mining: Base and precious metals mining companies, smelters, and industrial consumers.
  • OTC Derivatives & Structuring: Understand and analyze clients’ businesses, balance sheets, and physical exposures to provide best-suited sales solutions (including swaps, options, collars, and bespoke structured OTC derivatives) in full coordination with all relevant business partners.
  • Franchise Growth: Aid in achieving specified goals in both market and wallet share for the identified client franchise.
  • Market Intelligence: Act as a subject matter expert on global commodity markets, supply/demand dynamics, and macroeconomic trends to provide high-value advisory services to clients.
  • Help drive the team's developed strategy across specified product lines
  • Partner closely with other key businesses and functions to ensure proper product deployment based on understanding of client
  • Help foster an environment of collaboration through interfacing with appropriate internal partners to enhance share of mind with clients, increase dialogue and to deliver on expertise
  • Understand and analyze clients’ businesses and exposures to provide best suited sales solutions in full coordination with all relevant business partners
  • Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance in order to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure
  • Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance and supervision, expense discipline and ethics
  • Appropriately assess risk/reward of transactions when making business decisions; demonstrating proper consideration for the firm’s reputation.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to Citi’s Code of Conduct and the Plan of Supervision for Global Markets and Securities Services
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of sales and origination in the Commodities space.
  • Previous experience in client-facing roles with proven track record on growing and maintaining relationships through value added service and commercial skills
  • An entrepreneurial approach for business origination and developing new relationships
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills


Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
