The City is seeking a motivated, collaborative, and customer-focused professional to join our team as a Community Services Program Coordinator. This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about creating exceptional recreation experiences, leading dynamic programs, and making a positive impact in the community.

As a Recreation Coordinator, you will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and evaluating a wide variety of recreation programs, special events, aquatics, cultural arts, childcare, sports, and facility operations. This position offers the opportunity to lead and mentor staff, collaborate with community partners, oversee program operations and budgets, and help shape high-quality recreational services that enhance the quality of life for our residents.

This position will be assigned to Special Events: Responsiblefor planning and coordinating City Wide special events working with various vendors, marketing, and assisting with creating the budget. This includes working with non-profit organizations, handling the co-sponsorship program, outside rentals, and other related duties.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES HAVING TO WORK NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND MANDATORY HOLIDAYS.

Additional Program Areas:

  • Senior Services - Coordinate programs and services that support social, recreational, and wellness needs of older adults.

  • Sports Leagues - Organize, schedule, and manage youth and adult sports leagues, ensuring smooth operations and quality participant experiences.

  • Kids Club - Oversee daily after-school program activities, ensuring safe supervision, enrichment, and positive engagement for youth.

  • Camps - Plan and lead camp programming throughout the year, ensuring safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate experiences for all campers.

  • Aquatics - Manage aquatic programs, staffing, and safety operations to ensure high-quality swim lessons, recreation, and facility compliance.

  • Volunteers- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers to ensure effective and meaningful program assistance.

  • Sponsorships - Develop and maintain sponsor partnerships to secure resources, enhance events, and strengthen community engagement.

Knowledge, Education & Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in recreation administration, sociology, leisure studies, gerontology, physical education, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating comprehensive recreational programs.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid CPR and first aid certification issued by the American Red Cross, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills/Abilities

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of assigned staff.
  • Effectively provide staff leadership and work direction.
  • Plan and prepare recreation activity schedules, staffing schedules, reports, and other related program materials.
  • Respond to complaints or inquiries from citizens, staff, and outside organizations.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks of varying complexities and work well under pressure.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager’s Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and an Assistant City Manager. The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million.
