Community Support Services Direct Support Professional
The Community Support Services Direct Support Professional (CSS DSP) is a meaningful entry-level opportunity for someone who is compassionate, dependable, and ready to make a difference. In this role, you will help individuals build confidence, strengthen life and social skills, and achieve personal goals through one-on-one support and community connection. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, brings creative ideas, and is committed to helping others thrive. Typically, this position includes working one-on-one with individuals 1 to 3 times per week for 3-hour shifts. Scheduling is flexible based on staff availability and the needs of the individuals supported, with both full-time and part-time opportunities available. Most individuals supported are high functioning, with minimal to no behavioral or medication-related needs.
EXAMPLES OF WORK DUTIES: (Examples represent common responsibilities for the position. Responsibilities may be added or removed based on the needs of the individuals)
1. Support individuals in community-based activities such as budgeting, menu planning, shopping, and recreational participation.
2. Teach and assist individuals with self-care and daily living activities, both personally and within their environment, as needed.
3. Provide support to multiple individuals at varying times throughout the day.
4. Help maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment for the individuals served.
5. Create an atmosphere that is warm, respectful, caring, and home-like, with minimal friction among individuals and staff.
6. Advocate for individuals’ rights and encourage positive decision-making.
7. Promote inclusion and active participation in the community and the broader community.
8. Communicate effectively with individuals served, co-workers, supervisors, parents, guardians, and other agencies.
9. Collaborate with individuals served, family members, consultants, and related staff to help plan and implement Individual Plans.
10. Follow established procedures and document information in a manner consistent with expectations outlined in the Individual Plan.
11. Demonstrate Woodhaven’s values and support person-centered practices in daily work.
12. Represent Woodhaven positively to organizations, individuals, and government officials.
13. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Woodhaven policies, Department of Mental Health regulations, and federal and state laws.
14. Maintain a Missouri Class E driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
15. Maintain active auto insurance.
16. Use a personal vehicle when required and submit mileage reimbursement requests as applicable.
17. Perform additional duties as needed or as assigned by a supervisor.
18. Adapt to schedule or work location changes as needed to support individuals served and organizational needs.
