About the Role

As a Customs Analyst at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient movement of goods across the Canada-US border by managing customs compliance, shipping documentation, broker coordination, and freight-related financial processes. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines while maintaining compliance with international trade and customs regulations. You will have the opportunity to contribute directly to operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted cross-border supply chain performance.

You will collaborate with customs brokers, carriers, Accounts Payable, customer service, sales teams, and other internal stakeholders, ensuring timely shipment processing and resolution of customs-related issues. This role is located in Harrow, ON.

What You'll Do

Entry Processing & Documentation

  • Post customs entries and prepare/maintain USMCA certificates of origin

  • Prepare and manage affidavits, including acting as backup signor when required

  • Determine and verify HS (tariff) codes for both inbound and outbound shipments

  • Handle in-bond documentation for shipments to designated customers/carriers

  • Support customers who elect to clear their own loads

Invoicing & Reconciliation

  • Prepare and process customer and carrier invoices (including recurring customer-specific invoicing and coil certificate printing/editing)

  • Reconcile daily export invoices and freight invoices (including recurring freight-carrier invoicing)

  • Reconcile broker/carrier statements on a recurring basis

  • Manage manual invoices as needed outside standard system processes

Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute the daily US export shipment report to internal stakeholders (e.g., Accounts Payable)

  • Prepare the daily Canadian inbound shipment report

  • Prepare monthly GST reporting for Canadian shipments

  • Maintain and update the weekly FTP folder with required shipment documentation

  • Prepare weekly southbound invoicing

Compliance & Program Support

  • Support C-TPAT internal audit requirements and documentation

  • Process SecurePro approvals

  • Manage EDI blocking/holds as required

  • Maintain and update internal process documentation (e.g., border-delay procedures) to ensure continuity when issues arise

Carrier & Broker Coordination

  • Serve as a point of contact with the customs broker for HS code confirmation and shipment queries

  • Coordinate with carriers on shipping labels, load documentation, and shipment status

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of experience in customs clearance, trade compliance, logistics documentation, or a related field, preferably within a Canada-US cross-border environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office applications, customs documentation systems, and standard business software platforms.
  • Customs Expertise: Working knowledge of HS tariff classification, customs entry processing, and USMCA/CUSMA certificate preparation.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong reconciliation skills with experience managing invoices, broker statements, shipment documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively coordinate with customs brokers, carriers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Organization & Time Management: Proven ability to manage multiple recurring daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
  • Adaptability: Ability to prioritize work effectively and respond to changing business needs in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or a similar ERP platform.
  • Customs-related certification such as CCS, CTCS, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting C-TPAT program requirements.
  • Working knowledge of customs broker portals and EDI systems.

Compensation & Benefits

Below is the expected base salary range for this position. This is a good-faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.

Base Salary Range: $70K - 75K

Additional compensation may include:
