Data Engineer / Analytics Engineer (Mid-Senior)
Emagine is seeking a Data Analytics Engineer to join a collaborative and dynamic project environment in Portugal. This role is ideal for a professional with experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Business Intelligence, looking to bridge business needs with modern cloud-based data platforms within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem.
You will play a key role in transforming complex business requirements into robust, scalable data models ready for analytics and business consumption. Working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, you will design and optimize data structures to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility, while supporting advanced analytical use cases, including AI-driven solutions.
Your Main Responsibilities:
Gather, analyse, and validate business requirements, translating them into scalable data models and analytical solutions.
Design, develop, and maintain efficient ETL/ELT data transformation processes.
Develop and optimise data solutions within Google BigQuery, including query optimisation, partition management, and business logic implementation.
Design and implement dimensional data models (Star Schema and Snowflake) to support reporting and self-service analytics.
Develop and maintain semantic models using Looker / LookerML to enable autonomous business consumption of data.
Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through testing, validation, and documentation.
Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge transfer across teams.
Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data teams, and technical teams to deliver high-quality data solutions aligned with business objectives.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the organisation's cloud data platform and analytical capabilities.
You Bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
3-6 years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Business Intelligence, or similar roles.
Advanced SQL expertise.
Strong experience working with Google Cloud Platform, particularly BigQuery.
Solid experience with dimensional data modelling (Star Schema and Snowflake).
Proficiency with Looker and LookerML.
Experience with version control using Git.
Strong ability to understand business processes and translate business requirements into data models, metrics, and KPIs.
Experience working directly with business stakeholders such as Product, Finance, or Operations teams.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proactive, autonomous, and ownership-driven mindset.
Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Nice to Have:
Experience with dbt (data build tool).
Knowledge of Python.
Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow.
Experience within Retail and/or E-commerce environments.
Google Cloud certifications.
Experience developing semantic layers for self-service BI using LookerML.
Experience supporting AI-ready data structures or advanced analytics initiatives.
Location & Eligibility:
Candidates must be based in Portugal.
Hybrid regime — 2 to 3 days per week on-site in Carnaxide, Lisbon.
