Data Engineer
We are looking for a hands-on and solutions-focused Data Engineer to join the Unity Community in our Data Team, helping support the business to turn data into meaningful outcomes for our members.

About the role
We’re looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to help build and strengthen our data capability. Working as part of a small, collaborative team, you’ll be responsible for building, maintaining and monitoring data pipelines, improving data quality and reliability, and supporting the development of our Azure data environment.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Data Analyst and key stakeholders to develop scalable data solutions, optimise SQL queries, troubleshoot data and pipeline issues, and reduce manual processes. You’ll also contribute to data documentation, governance and reporting, with the opportunity to make a real impact on how the organisation uses and manages its data.
Key responsibilities
Build, maintain and monitor data pipelines running across Unity's data environment, ensuring reliable, timely and accurate data delivery to the business
Design and build scalable, reliable data solutions that reduce manual effort and improve data quality
Write and optimise SQL queries to extract, transform and load data from Unity's core database and connected data sources in Azure
Identify and resolve pipeline failures, data quality issues and infrastructure problems
Contribute to the development of Unity's data infrastructure in Azure
Support the Senior Data analyst with scheduled reporting and data requests
Maintain data documentation, pipeline catalogues and governance artefacts to support a traceable data environment
About you
A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Data or Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field (and /or industry-based certification).
Proven experience (2 years minimum) with SQL - writing, optimising and troubleshooting queries against databases
Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and scheduled data processes
Experience working with Azure or similar cloud platforms
Experience with Power BI including data modelling
Naturally curious
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion
Resilient with the ability to work under pressure
Proactive self-starter
