Mission

As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a key role in enabling the reliability, scalability and operational excellence for one of the strategic platforms supporting ING's sustainability ambitions. You will help build and evolve the engineering ecosystem that enables teams to deliver software efficiently, securely and at scale. Working closely with software engineers, data professionals and platform teams, you will drive automation, improve developer experience and strengthen the operational foundations within the team.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Design, build and maintain CI/CD solutions that support efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Develop and improve infrastructure automation, deployment processes and operational workflows.
  • Support and evolve containerized application environments and platform capabilities.
  • Partner with software engineers to improve deployment reliability, observability and platform stability.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting and operational dashboards to improve system visibility.
  • Contribute to platform security, resilience and operational risk reduction.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks and infrastructure-related challenges.
  • Improve system reliability through automation, standardization and engineering best practices.
  • Help define and promote DevOps standards, operational excellence and engineering maturity across the team.
  • Support disaster recovery, backup, availability and service continuity initiatives.
  • Contribute to cloud-native and container-based platform evolution.
  • Mentor colleagues and promote a culture of automation, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product stakeholders and platform teams to improve the overall software delivery lifecycle.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline (required).
  • Master's degree in a relevant field is considered an advantage.
  • Relevant certifications in Cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes, Platform Engineering or Security are considered a plus.
  • Extensive experience working in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering roles.
  • Strong experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with containerization technologies and Kubernetes-based platforms. The Gaia ecosystem references Kubernetes/OpenShift as part of its infrastructure landscape.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code and automation practices.
  • Experience operating production workloads in cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging and observability principles.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security and system reliability concepts.
  • Experience supporting modern software development teams and Agile ways of working.
  • Ability to automate repetitive operational tasks through scripting and tooling.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of production environments and platform capabilities.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD ecosystems. Azure Pipelines are explicitly referenced in the Gaia technology landscape.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift or comparable container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience with platform engineering and developer experience initiatives.
  • Familiarity with API Gateway, NGINX and cloud storage solutions. These technologies are referenced within the Gaia technical landscape.
  • Experience supporting data-intensive applications and platforms.
  • Understanding of security controls and secure software delivery practices.
  • Experience working in sustainability, ESG, risk, regulatory or financial services environments.
  • Experience contributing to architecture and platform roadmap discussions.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and driving operational excellence initiatives.
