Summary
Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for a defense tech project on custom hardware with on-device AI acceleration. Day-to-day work spans Embedded Linux (kernel, drivers, device tree, BSP), edge AI inference optimization, hardware bring-up/debugging, and low-level C/C++ development with tools like GDB, JTAG, and logic analyzers.
We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a defense tech project on a full-time contract basis. The project involves building low-level software for embedded platforms with on-device AI acceleration.
This is a hands-on engineering role — you will be working close to the hardware, where correctness and reliability are non-negotiable.
Location: Europe (remote).
Start: September 2026.
Format: Contract, full-time.
English: B2 or higher.
Your responsibilities will include:
Design, develop, and maintain embedded software across the complete development lifecycle — from requirements to bring-up, integration, and field support.
Work with Embedded Linux at a low level: kernel configuration, device drivers, device tree, and BSP work on custom hardware.
Integrate and optimize AI inference workloads on edge accelerators and DSPs.
Bring up and debug new hardware platforms and System-on-Module boards.
Debug at the hardware/software boundary using GDB, JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
Implement and troubleshoot networking and IP-based communication on embedded targets.
Optimize software for real-time constraints, memory footprint, and power efficiency.
Collaborate directly with hardware and systems engineers during integration and validation.
Document architecture decisions, interfaces, and debugging findings clearly.
What we expect from you:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience across the complete embedded software development lifecycle.
Strong proficiency in C/C++ — modern C++ preferred — for embedded development.
Solid Embedded Linux experience: kernel, device drivers, device tree configuration; Yocto or Buildroot a plus.
Deep understanding of operating systems (Linux and RTOS), networking/IP protocols, and hardware interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, Ethernet).
Solid experience with low-level debugging tools — GDB, JTAG, logic analyzers.
Experience with Git and standard software configuration management practices.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have:
Texas Instruments processor families — CPU and DSP (TMS320, C66x, Sitara).
Other edge AI acceleration experience — NVIDIA Jetson/TensorRT, OpenVINO, NPUs.
DSPs, FPGAs, or other hardware acceleration technologies.
RK3588 System-on-Module platforms, or comparable ARM SoCs (i.MX, Qualcomm, Zynq).
Background in defense, UAV, avionics, robotics, or industrial vision systems.
