Emergency Preparedness and Safety Support Internship

General Purpose

The Bear River Health Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our Emergency Preparedness and Safety programs. This internship offers hands-on experience in public health emergency operations and workforce safety.


Position Overview

The intern will assist in rebuilding the department’s emergency notification database and contribute to preparedness and emergency response initiatives across the department. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in public health, emergency management, or healthcare administration.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, implementation and testing of emergency notification systems (text, email, and phone alerts)
  • Help maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Collection and organization of Safety Data Sheets throughout the department
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and exercises, including testing and evaluating segments of the department’s new All-Hazards Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed
  • Collaborate with team members on process improvements and special projects


Qualifications:

  • Current university student or recent graduate in public health, emergency management, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and basic data systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in emergency preparedness and public health systems
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with healthcare facilities and first responder agencies
  • Working knowledge of the national Incident Command System


Schedule & Duration:

  • Flexible schedule based on availability
  • Internship length to be negotiated with candidate (minimum 4 months or full semester)


Location:
Logan, Utah (some in-person availability required, with potential for remote tasks)


Compensation:

$1,000 stipend with completion of internship
