Export Manager - Ocean Freight

As our Ocean Export Manager, you will take responsibility for our day-to-day Ocean Export operations while leading, supporting and developing the team behind them.

You’ll make sure our ocean export activities run smoothly, efficiently and in line with all relevant requirements – while keeping our clients and their needs at the heart of what we do. Working closely with customers, shipping lines, key suppliers and internal teams, you’ll combine your operational Ocean Freight expertise with strong leadership and a hands-on approach.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this role, you will:

• Lead, support and develop the Ocean Export team in their day-to-day activities.
• Plan, coordinate and oversee daily Ocean Freight Export operations.
• Assign and prioritize work to ensure efficient, reliable and customer-focused service delivery.
• Support the team with export correspondence, bid requests and credit collection activities.
• Work closely with clients to understand their requirements and identify appropriate solutions, compliance recommendations and opportunities for enhanced services.
• Ensure Ocean Export activities are carried out in accordance with applicable regulations, company policies and legal requirements.
• Coordinate shipping requirements and documentation, including export licenses, customs declarations, packing requirements and routing.
• Manage and coordinate export arrangements with shipping lines, clients, suppliers and other relevant partners.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant tariffs, licenses, restrictions and regulatory requirements.
• Manage challenging client situations professionally and effectively, with a strong focus on practical solutions and excellent customer service.
• Support the marketing and development of Ocean Export services and contribute to the growth of the procurement segment of the business.
• Train, coach and develop employees and provide ongoing guidance and support.
• Monitor and evaluate performance, recognize achievements and address performance or conduct matters where required.
• Handle employee concerns and support the resolution of operational and team-related issues.
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
• Take on additional responsibilities as required to support the team and wider business.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who combines strong Ocean Freight expertise with a genuine passion for leadership and teamwork.

Ideally, you will bring:

• A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Business Administration, Finance, Economics or a related field.
• At least five years of relevant experience within freight forwarding, Ocean Freight, procurement or a related field.
• At least five years of supervisory or management experience.
• Strong knowledge of Ocean Export operations, processes and documentation.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate, support and develop a team.
• A proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• The ability to remain organized and effective in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, shipping lines, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
• Professional certifications where required for the relevant area of responsibility.
