Staff Engineer – PCB Design and Test
The PCB Design and Test Staff Engineer will specify and design the analog circuit portions of pluggable products.
This position will control Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) for data-center applications. The PCB must control PIC elements: DFB laser, SOA, Modulators, VOA, Monitor Photo Diodes, and the TEC controller. You will need to translate PIC specs to product specs and select proper components for control that meet bandwidth, noise, stability, and power. You will also simulate the designed PCB to make sure that it meets product specs. The role will own PCB schematic capture, layout, bring-up, debug testing, and DVT.
NION2026
Core Responsibilities
Design circuit at transistor, op-amp, and low-level discrete components level using EDA tools like Cadence or SPICE to meet strict bandwidth, noise, and power constraints.
Have a good understanding of FPGA, CPLD, and MCU to be able to incorporate them in the designs.
Design power supplies required for the system
Create Spice simulation and test benches for power supplies and control circuits.
Create schematics and work with PCB layout group to design PC boards by providing physical and electrical constraints.
Review and edit the layout to ensure the circuit design meets target performance.
Evaluate and select new components such as power supplies, power FETs, Clocks, glue logic IC, control chips, etc.
Collaborate with internal firmware/software teams on implementing board level and circuit block diagnostics.
Design test plan, bring up, and EDVT
Bring up, test, and debug new PCB hardware.
Document test results and lead design review with cross functional groups.
MS degree in Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years of experience (or equivalent) preferred in laser applications such as data communication systems or similar fields. However, various levels will be considered.
Must have experience in board level circuit design, simulation and hands-on test and board bring up.
Experience with DAC, ADC, IDAC, Op-amp, switching power supplies, LDO, and other signal conditioning circuits and components.
Proficiency in Cadence Allegro: edit the layout as an example for the layout group to implement changes. This improves feedback efficiency.
Strong Knowledge in signal and power integrity for high-speed PCB designs for network applications.
Understanding the PCB fab and assembly processes for engineering protos.
Proficiency with lab test equipment (Scopes, function generator, power meter, etc.)
Coding skills to facilitate automation of routine testing
Ability to communicate well and work closely and cross-functionally with engineering groups in design and resolving issues
