Infrastructure Engineer
About fab2
The fab2 team can build anything. We design all the hardware and software needed to make chips and we make the fabs, tools, and components ourselves.
We're looking for exceptional, hands-on people who can iterate to the limits of what's possible.
fab2 was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the Team
Fab2 prints chips. Fab2 prints fabs. The Software team builds the software that runs it all.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to own the infrastructure behind Fab2. You’ll work across Linux systems, on-prem compute, networking, deployment, observability, and developer tooling.
This is a greenfield role for someone who likes understanding how systems actually work, keeping the stack simple, and building infrastructure that engineers can rely on.
Responsibilities
Design and operate the infrastructure that runs software across the fab.
Manage our fleet of on-prem servers, virtual machines, and computers connected directly to fab equipment.
Own core networking and services across storage, service discovery, authentication, secrets, and deployment.
Build observability for both traditional system metrics and high-frequency telemetry from fab equipment.
Automate OS imaging, software builds, deployments, and infrastructure provisioning.
Create internal infrastructure and developer tools that make it easy for engineers to ship and operate software.
Design networking, replication, and backups that can scale as we build more fabs.
Requirements
Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.
Experience with backend, infrastructure, distributed systems, or systems engineering.
Strong Linux fundamentals and comfort working below cloud abstractions.
Ability to reason across compute, networking, storage, deployment, and data systems.
Highly effective using AI coding tools while able to independently read, write, and debug code.
Strong technical communication and a high degree of ownership.
Nice-to-Haves
Founding engineer, CTO, or early-stage startup background.
Experience with bare-metal or on-prem infrastructure.
Familiarity with developer platforms, deployment systems, or observability tooling.
Hands-on work with high-throughput telemetry or data systems.
Exposure to robotics, industrial automation, semiconductor equipment, or AI infrastructure.
Experience building software for regulated environments.
Working at fab2
We’re an early-stage hardware startup with solid funding, world-class advisors, and a lab/office.
