IT Systems and Support Engineer
More than just a support desk. Build a career at Lumen.
Join one of the few genuine employee-owned engineering consultancies driving the renewable energy transition, in a role that grows with you. If you want real ownership over the IT systems that keep a business of specialist engineers running, and the chance to shape technology direction as you prove yourself, read on. This role is designed for IT professionals who want to understand the business before they shape its technology.
About Us
Lumen is a specialist engineering consultancy and industry leader in the power utility and renewable energy space. We are a 100% employee-owned, carbon-positive company with offices across Australia and New Zealand. Stepping into our team of around 50 dedicated specialists, you will work alongside engineers who maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure and design new connections to the electricity grid.
Work-life balance is important to us, and we mean it when we say we're flexible.
The Opportunity
We are offering a genuine career pathway for an intermediate IT Systems and Support Engineer with three years’ relevant experience in IT support or systems administration. We believe the most effective IT professionals in a business like ours are those who start by understanding it from the ground up: the tools people use and the problems they face day to day.
You will begin by owning the operational IT function, keeping systems running reliably and supporting our people while you build your understanding of how Lumen works. As you demonstrate capability, you will take on more strategic responsibilities alongside our Senior IT and Software Specialist, helping shape the technology direction of the business.

About You
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is proactive, organised, and genuinely service-focused, with the ambition to grow beyond the support desk over time. You see Phase 1 as a foundation, not a ceiling.
Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in information technology or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: A minimum of three years' experience in IT support, systems administration, or a similar role, including hands-on administration of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365, software licence and asset management, user onboarding and offboarding, and Linux server administration.
Skills: A solid grasp of networking fundamentals; strong, methodical troubleshooting; and clear communication across written, verbal, and interpersonal settings. You can write a concise troubleshooting guide, explain a technical problem to a non-technical engineer, and hold your own in a team discussion with equal ease. Practical scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or similar.
Nice to have: Exposure to generative AI tools, cyber security awareness platforms or phishing simulation tools, and familiarity with ISO 27001.
