Lead Data Center Support Services Technician

As an Oracle Data Centre Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting, maintaining, and continuously improving our world-class data centre infrastructure. Acting as a technical liaison between engineering teams, vendors, stakeholders, and the data centre environment, you'll help ensure the reliability, availability, safety, and performance of critical infrastructure and cloud services.

You'll be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and decommissioning data centre hardware and supporting infrastructure. You'll respond to incidents, perform preventative maintenance, maintain accurate asset and spare-parts inventory, and follow established operational procedures and safety standards.

Success in this role requires strong hands-on technical capability combined with communication, stakeholder management, planning, accountability, resilience, adaptability, customer focus, and collaboration. You'll be expected to take initiative, manage competing priorities, communicate risks early, and contribute positively to a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, deploy, maintain, upgrade, and decommission data centre equipment and infrastructure.

  • Perform safe and efficient rack and stack activities, server deployments, hardware installations, equipment replacements, upgrades, and decommissioning.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve server, hardware, cabling, network, power, and supporting infrastructure issues, escalating appropriately when additional expertise or support is required.

  • Triage, prioritise, and respond to incoming incidents, service requests, and operational issues in a timely manner.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, including diagnosing hardware failures, replacing failed components, and applying firmware updates.

  • Monitor and support the reliability and performance of production server hardware and supporting data centre infrastructure.

  • Maintain accurate asset, hardware, and spare-parts inventory using internal systems and support tools.

  • Follow established SOPs, change-management processes, operational procedures, security requirements, and safety standards.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, risk reduction, and improved service quality.

  • Plan and organise work effectively, balancing competing priorities and high work demands while maintaining attention to detail and delivery quality.

  • Monitor progress against assigned work, proactively communicate priorities, dependencies, blockers, and risks, and take appropriate action when delivery may be impacted.

  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability, and resourcefulness, independently using available documentation, tools, systems, and technical resources to investigate and resolve problems.

  • Recognise personal capacity and technical limitations and escalate workload, risk, or complexity appropriately before service quality, safety, wellbeing, or delivery is adversely affected.

  • Build collaborative working relationships with engineering teams, vendors, customers, internal stakeholders, and other technical and non-technical teams.

  • Communicate technical information clearly and professionally, adapting communication to the audience and proactively keeping relevant stakeholders informed.

Technical Knowledge and Experience

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Previous hands-on experience working in a Data Centre or comparable mission-critical infrastructure environment.
  • Practical experience across the hardware lifecycle, including rack and stack, deployment, configuration, testing, maintenance, upgrades, break/fix activities, component replacement, and decommissioning.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to systematically identify root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Experience following documented operational procedures while exercising sound judgement when situations require investigation or escalation.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when performing physical infrastructure changes, maintaining records, handling assets, and working on production systems.
  • Background in Linux.
  • Knowledge of Data Centre Ecosystem (cooling, electrical, networking, and structured cabling).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, carry, position, and move IT equipment weighing 15 kg or more.

  • Comfortable working within data centre environments, including standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, and working in confined or restricted spaces.

  • Able to safely and efficiently perform rack and stack, hardware installation, cabling, component replacement, and equipment decommissioning activities.

  • Commitment to following relevant workplace health, safety, and operational procedures.

  • Valid drivers license and access to a car.

Security Requirements

Applicants must be Australian citizens and either:

  • Hold a current NV1 Security Clearance, or
  • Be eligible and willing to obtain NV1 clearance through the Australian Government security vetting process.
