ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the Lead Front-End Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and evolving the customer-facing web applications and user experiences using modern frontend technologies within a cloud based environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this pivotal role, you will provide technical leadership across frontend engineering, shaping engineering standards, performance, observability, accessibility, and discoverability across all products.
Leading from the front with high-quality engineering practices, you'll provide technical mentorship and strong collaboration across teams. You will tackle complex technical challenges, guide implementation approaches, mentor other engineers and drive continuous improvement across the frontend ecosystem. This includes ensuring the applications remain performant, scalable, observable, accessible, and optimised for both traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered discovery platforms.
You'll champion modern engineering practices, including the effective use of AI-assisted development tools, helping the team continuously improve productivity, code quality, delivery outcomes, and knowledge sharing while maintaining high engineering standards.
ABOUT YOU:
We are seeking someone with strong mentoring, communication, and technical leadership capabilities. In addition, you will need the following:
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Expert-level React and Next.js experience in production environments.
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js expertise.
- Experience delivering high-performance customer-facing web applications.
- Strong frontend performance optimisation and technical SEO experience.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tooling.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional engineering teams.
- Fully remote - Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch preferred, but can be from anywhere in NZ
