Leave Manager
Overview
The Leave Manager is responsible for the leave of absence administration to ensure
compliance, accuracy, and a positive employee experience. This role is highly employee-facing and
requires frequent interaction with employees, managers, payroll, and external vendors.
The Leave Manager serves as a subject matter expert for leave policies, providing guidance on eligibility
and leave processes while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Responsibilities
- Leave of Absence Administration
- Administer leave programs including FMLA, NJ FLA, NJ Paid Sick Leave, Workers’ Compensation, and personal leaves
- Serve as primary contact for our external vendors, internal partners, and employees
- Communicate with employees regarding leave requests, documentation, and timelines
- Track leave usage, balances, and return-to-work processes
- Coordinate with Payroll to ensure accurate timekeeping during leaves
- Initiate and monitor long-term disability claims as applicable
- Maintain communication with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and state agencies
- Compliance and Service
- Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and applicable state laws
- Track and apply federal, state, and local statutory changes to maintain accurate and legal company policies
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information
- Provide responsive, compassionate, and clear customer service to employees
- Participate in audits, reporting, and process improvement initiatives
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with payroll, total rewards, legal teams, and external third-party leave vendors to align data, adjustments, and benefit accruals.
- Employee Manager Guidance
- Act as a subject matter expert, resolving questions regarding leave eligibility, job protection, and return-to-work milestones.
Qualifications
Required Education: BS, Human Resources or Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
Experience: 3-6 years of direct Human Resources or Leave Administration experience
Special Skills
- Technical Knowledge: strong proficiency with HRIS tools (such as UKG) and dedicated absence tracking platforms
- Communication Skills: exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities to handle sensitive medical and personal data discreetly
Salary $90,000
