Legal Counsel
⭐️ CoreStar is a dynamic technology company supporting partners in heavy-load industries with high-performance solutions. Our expert teams bring a startup-driven mindset, focusing on innovation, collaboration, and efficiency in every project. At CoreStar, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, tackle exciting challenges, and directly contribute to impactful products.
About the Role
We are looking for a commercially minded, hands-on Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Compliance team. This is a generalist in-house role — you will be the go-to person across the business for a wide range of legal matters, working closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to keep the company legally sound and operationally agile.
This is not a siloed role. You will handle everything from drafting and negotiating commercial agreements to fielding compliance queries, advising on employment matters, and supporting customer-facing teams — all within a fast-paced regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as first point of contact for legal queries from across the business, triaging and managing requests efficiently
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and service contracts
- Support the company's data protection function, including GDPR compliance, DPIAs, data processing agreements, and handling DSARs
- Provide practical guidance on employment law matters — contracts, HR policy queries, disciplinary processes, and workplace disputes
- Assist customer support and operations teams with escalated legal queries and regulatory complaints
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and third-party vendors
- Monitor changes in data protection law, flagging and implementing necessary updates internally
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal legal templates, policies, and procedures
- Support the broader compliance function as needed, including licensing renewals and regulatory reporting
What We're Looking For
- Qualified lawyer with 4–7 years of post-qualification experience.
- Solid grounding in commercial contract law and experience negotiating with vendors and commercial partners
- Working knowledge of data protection law (GDPR / UK GDPR) and compliance frameworks
- Exposure to employment law in a practical advisory capacity
- Comfortable operating as a generalist — you enjoy variety and can context-switch between a compliance question and a contract redline on the same afternoon
- Solution-oriented mindset — you approach legal challenges pragmatically, looking for ways to get things done rather than reasons to say no; the business will come to you with problems and they should leave with a path forward
- Strong drafting skills and the ability to communicate legal risk clearly to non-legal colleagues
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage a busy and varied workload independently
- Experience working with or within a compliance or regulatory team is a plus
