Job overview

We are seeking a proficient Ruby on Rails developer who brings strong object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, an API-first approach, and experience building scalable applications. The ideal candidate is comfortable with modern frontend frameworks, integrating APIs, and contributing to robust, maintainable, and performant backend systems. Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus, and exposure to other backend languages such as Python, Go, or Elixir is an added advantage.

AI-assisted engineering We expect engineers to work fluently with AI coding assistants and agentic coding harnesses — such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Cursor — as part of their everyday workflow, using them to accelerate delivery while retaining full ownership of code quality, security, and design.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Apply OOP principles and design patterns to keep codebases maintainable and modular.
• Build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs supporting frontend and external integrations.
• Collaborate with frontend teams to integrate cleanly with modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue).
• Write clean, efficient, and secure code following best practices in performance, testing, and documentation.
• Ensure systems are scalable and performant under large-scale data and user load.
• Leverage AI coding assistants and agentic harnesses to accelerate development — then review, test, and validate AI-generated output to uphold engineering standards.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement.
• Work in agile teams, using CI/CD pipelines and version control effectively.
• Implement containerized services and deployments with Docker and, optionally, Kubernetes.
• Contribute to technical decisions, mentor junior developers, and maintain high engineering standards.

Required skills and qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and a solid grasp of Ruby language constructs.
• Sound knowledge of OOP concepts, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
• Proven experience building and maintaining APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL).
• Comfortable partnering with frontend developers and integrating modern frameworks (React, Vue).
• Experience with scalable, production-grade systems.
• Familiarity with SQL and ActiveRecord, performance tuning, and caching strategies.
• Version-control expertise with Git and experience in code-review workflows.
• Strong hands-on TDD experience with RSpec and a clear understanding of testing strategies.
• Practical familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and effective prompting to improve delivery speed and code quality.
• Comfortable debugging, profiling, and monitoring production systems.

Preferred qualifications

• Hands-on working experience with agentic AI coding harnesses — driving multi-step tasks, supplying effective context, and reviewing AI-generated changes for correctness and security.
• Exposure to Docker and basic container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Experience with background job processing (Sidekiq, Resque).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools for backend services.
• Experience in a microservices or service-oriented architecture (SOA) setup.
• Working knowledge of additional backend languages such as Python, Go, or Elixir.
• Understanding of security best practices in web and API design, including reviewing AI-generated code for vulnerabilities.
• Familiarity with service observability: logs, metrics, and tracing tools.
