Manager, Gas Engineering - Pressure Control
The Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and directs the overall activities of the Mechanical group within Pressure Control. Ensures operating supervisors are made aware of training requirements and obtains solutions to their problems to allow them to perform their required functions in compliance with all regulations, procedures and Gas Specification. The Manager performs administrative functions, such as management of the budget and personnel issues in a timely and professional manner. The Manager has the overall responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the Pressure Control mechanical section of the department to maximize the integrity, reliability and continuity of the gas regulating assets maintained by the organization while operating within human resource budgets and schedules. Coordinates multiple projects simultaneously while remaining flexibility to effectively meet changing priorities and deadlines. The candidate must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
Core Responsibilities- Manage a team of management and union employees in the day-to-day operation of the Pressure Control Department.
- Oversee the Pressure Control work out locations and ensures critical storeroom inventories are maintained and controlled.
- Oversee all administrative functions of the Pressure Control Department including record retention and archiving.
- Oversee the administration of the Pressure Control procurement process and assists with establishing contracts for Pressure Control O/M activities.
- Oversee projects sponsored by Pressure Control during construction to insure satisfactory completion and commissioning.
- Maintain and updates the Pressure Control Training Implementation Plan.
- Manage the Pressure Control Operator Qualification Program.
- Work to become fully operator qualified in all Operator Qualifications for the mechanical section within Pressure Control.
- Act as the Department lead for the implementation of Gas Central or other work management systems within Pressure Control.
- Act as primary liaison with the Gas Operations Training Manager and Local Gas Operations training personnel.
- Oversee all training and medical scheduling.
- Assist with the evaluations of new gas pressure regulating equipment, ROV controls, SCADA electronics and material for use on the gas system at transmission gate stations, district and industrial regulator stations.
- Provide technical and training support to other departments concerning gas distribution system operations, seasonal pressure settings, network flow constraints, critical equipment adjustments.
- Perform field training to other departments of system operations and regulator station equipment.
- Make recommendations to improve/retrofit obsolete or outdated equipment and assists in the preparation of the annual and five-year capital budget requests to support these activities.
- Respond to system emergencies including on off hours and holidays to coordinate with Gas Control, Regional Operations, and ERC personnel, to rectify and repair comprised elements.
- Delegation for Department Manager during absences and vacations as required.
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 years full time relevant experience or
- Associate's Degree and 5 years full time relevant experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and 7 years full time relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant field experience, or supervisory and managerial experience of a technical group with a proven ability to motivate people, required.
- Working knowledge of gas transmission and distribution system, regulator stations, ROVs, gate stations, and general system operation, required.
- Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations concerning pressure regulation equipment/designs, required.
- Knowledge of design, repair, and maintenance of gas distribution systems, pressure regulating stations / equipment,gate stations, power generation (as applicable), mechanical and controls systems, as well as associated equipment, required.

- Perform work in underground vaults through manholes
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Ability to climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Available for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions.
- Capable or working at elevations and within tunnels.
