Manager of Benefits
JOB PURPOSE
The Manager, Benefits leads the administration, delivery, compliance, and ongoing improvement of Atlantic Health's employee benefits programs, with primary responsibility for Health & Welfare benefits and benefits administration. The role also oversees Retirement, voluntary benefits, tuition reimbursement and advancement, childcare and family-support programs, and other team member benefit programs assigned to the Benefits function. Partners with the Director, Benefits & Well-Being to translate approved strategies into effective program administration, clear communications, strong vendor performance, and a high-quality team member experience.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Partner with the Director, Benefits & Well-Being to translate approved benefits strategies into annual priorities, operating plans, implementation activities, communications, and measurable outcomes.
- Lead the administration and ongoing improvement of Atlantic Health's Health & Welfare benefit programs, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, flexible spending and reimbursement accounts, life insurance, disability, and related benefits, with a strong focus on accurate and effective day-to-day benefits administration.
- Lead benefits administration operations, including eligibility and enrollment processes, plan interpretation, escalations, issue resolution, participant communications, testing, reporting, and coordination with HRIS, Payroll, vendors, and other internal partners.
- Manage the administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of Atlantic Health's defined contribution and defined benefit Retirement programs, including employer-sponsored retirement savings and pension-related programs; oversee plan operations, vendors, participant communications, regulatory requirements, and retirement-readiness initiatives.
- Manage tuition reimbursement, tuition advancement, and other education-related benefits, including vendor administration, eligibility, policy interpretation, escalations, reporting, and program improvements; oversee childcare and family-support benefits and resources assigned to the Benefits function.
- Lead the annual benefits renewal and Open Enrollment process, including plan review, implementation planning, testing, team member communications, education, vendor coordination, issue resolution, and post-enrollment evaluation.
- Oversee benefits and Retirement vendors and external partners, including implementation, service delivery, performance standards, participant experience, issue resolution, reporting, contract deliverables, and coordination with internal stakeholders.
- Lead benefits projects and implementations by developing project plans, coordinating requirements, obtaining stakeholder alignment, managing testing and change activities, monitoring milestones and risks, supporting go-live, and completing post-implementation review.
- Manage and develop the Benefits team, including establishing priorities, assigning work, coaching and developing team members, monitoring performance and service delivery, supporting accountability, and ensuring accurate, responsive benefits administration.
- Serve as a benefits subject matter expert and escalation resource; oversee applicable compliance activities, audits, testing, notices, and filings; monitor budgets, vendor fees, utilization, service metrics, and team member feedback; analyze trends and recommend program, process, or service improvements; and perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Benefits team members and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and performance of the team. Responsibilities include recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, developing, and evaluating team members; establishing work priorities; monitoring performance and service delivery; and supporting appropriate personnel actions in accordance with Atlantic Health policies.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, benefits administration, finance, health administration, or a related field required.
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and progressively responsible employee benefits experience may be considered.
Experience
- Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in employee benefits, including significant Health & Welfare plan administration, required.
- Two to five years of leadership, supervisory, or significant program leadership experience required.
- Experience managing benefits administration operations, including eligibility, enrollment, plan interpretation, escalations, communications, testing, reporting, and issue resolution required.
- Experience administering defined contribution and defined benefit Retirement programs required.
- Experience managing vendors, complex projects, budgets, compliance activities, and cross-functional partnerships required.
- Experience leading Open Enrollment, benefits implementations, and change activities required.
- Experience administering education, childcare/family-support, or other specialized benefit programs preferred.
- Experience using utilization, financial, operational, and service data to evaluate performance and inform recommendations required.
- Experience working in a large, complex, multi-location organization preferred.
- Healthcare experience preferred.
