Manufacturing Engineering Manager
You lead the manufacturing engineering department and develop a team of manufacturing engineers. You direct plant optimization, production strategy, resource allocation, CapEx and equipment planning, Lean improvements, DFMA reviews, NPI transitions, and engineering change management. You collaborate across design engineering, Sales, R&D, and Operations to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and production readiness.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the manufacturing engineering team
- Allocate resources across production lines and NPI projects
- Direct plant layout and assembly line optimization
- Maximize facility throughput
- Oversee manufacturing machinery and tooling procurement and commissioning
- Manage project budgets
- Champion Lean manufacturing improvements
- Lead DFMA and Design for Excellence reviews
- Own the manufacturing side of the NPI process
- Transition production-ready models to the factory floor
- Oversee Engineering Change Orders
- Assess engineering change impacts on inventory, tooling, and labor
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
- 7-10+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience
- Experience in heavy assembly, electromechanical, or engineered-to-order environments
- 3+ years of direct supervisory or management experience
- Experience developing technical talent
- Deep expertise in Lean manufacturing principles
- Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software
- Advanced knowledge of metals, materials, welding, mechanical assembly, and busbar forming
- Ability to negotiate and influence stakeholders across Sales, R&D, and Operations
- Participation in a required drug and alcohol program
- Master's degree in Engineering Management or MBA is a bonus
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a bonus
- Greenfield manufacturing plant startup experience is a bonus
- Professional Engineer license is a bonus
