Network Engineer
💼 Position Overview
We are seeking an Intermediate Federal Network Support Engineer to provide technical infrastructure and network support for the Azure Core Networking team within secure Government Cloud environments.
The role provides Tier 2 network support, bridging frontline operational support and advanced engineering teams. You will support 24x7 operations involving PhysNet, FPN, ExpressRoute, VPN, WAN, and other critical network services.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
Network Operations
- Lead triage and mitigation of moderate-complexity network incidents.
- Troubleshoot customer-reported and deployment-related incidents.
- Monitor network performance using SPAN, packet capture, and network monitoring tools.
- Support WAN incidents and coordinate resolution activities.
- Perform end-to-end deployment and onboarding of Microsoft ExpressRoute devices.
- Validate network configurations before production deployment.
- Support VPN and secure web portal implementations.
- Coordinate network infrastructure and scripting framework activities.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Perform root cause analysis for recurring network incidents.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective actions.
- Conduct operational readiness testing for new network deployments.
- Prepare troubleshooting guides and technical documentation.
- Support network infrastructure decommissioning activities.
- Provide technical guidance to Tier 1 support engineers.
Partner & Escalation Management
- Act as a primary escalation point for Tier 1 network support teams.
- Coordinate with Microsoft and network service partners such as AT&T, BT, Verizon, and Equinix.
- Support capacity planning and partner onboarding activities.
- Assist with Letters of Authorization (LOAs) and operational readiness processes.
- Support technical and contract sign-off activities for new partner integrations.
- Escalate complex issues to senior engineering teams with complete technical documentation.
- Participate in post-incident reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
🎓 Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in network operations, network engineering, or technical support.
- Working knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including:BGPOSPFMPLSVPNRouting and switching
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking services, including:Azure ExpressRouteExpressRoute DirectVPN GatewayAzure Virtual WAN
- Experience with network monitoring and SPAN/packet capture analysis.
- Experience with ticketing systems and incident management processes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a 24x7 operational environment.
- Strong documentation and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
- Familiarity with network automation and scripting using PowerShell or Python is preferred.
⭐ Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure networking certification, such as Azure Network Engineer Associate or equivalent.
- Experience supporting cloud or government environments.
- Cisco CCNP or equivalent networking certification.
- Experience working in an MSP, managed services, NOC, or cloud operations environment.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale network infrastructure.

Candidates with one or more of the following certifications are preferred:
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Azure AZ-900
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate
- Cisco CCNP or equivalent
