Job Title: Peer Support Worker – Pitching in Project

Reports to: Manager of Housing
Contract Type: CUPE Local 5478

Rate of Pay: $25.25 per hour

Hours: Flexible schedule including Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends


The Peer Support Worker uses personal lived experience with mental health, substance use, and/or homelessness to support Guests on their individual journeys. As part of The Gathering Place, this position helps create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space where Guests are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect. Through peer support, advocacy, harm reduction, and wellness navigation, the Peer Support Worker builds trust, reduces stigma, and promotes hope and connection.


What You’ll Do

  • Work with Pitching In program participants to conduct proactive needle recovery, safe disposal and community clean up activities in designated areas.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and support to participants, promoting safe work practices and positive participation.
  • Support community outreach and promote harm reduction, public health and community safety initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Coordinator and community partners to deliver project objectives.
  • Maintain healthy personal and professional boundaries and practice self-care
  • Complete required documentation and comply with organizational policies, occupational health and safety requirements and safe work procedures.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the objectives of the project.


What You Bring

  • Personal lived experience with homelessness and/or mental health and addictions challenges, with the ability to safely use that experience to support others
  • Peer Support Training and community-based experience are considered assets
  • Compassionate, non-judgmental approach with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, de-escalation, crisis response, and anti-discrimination principles
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting a sense of belonging for all Guests
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong documentation, report writing, and basic computer skills
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required

Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
