Performance Test Engineer
About the Role
We’re looking for a Performance Test Engineer to design, build, and own our performance testing infrastructure. You’ll develop scalable performance test frameworks, simulate realistic workloads, identify system bottlenecks, and integrate performance validation into the engineering lifecycle.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building performance tooling from the ground up and turning performance insights into reliable, automated regression coverage.
What You’ll Do
Design and maintain performance test harnesses and load-simulation solutions using Playwright, Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP), and other relevant tools.
Instrument and analyze web performance metrics such as JS heap, FPS, edit-to-done, and time-to-idle.
Build load, stress, endurance, scalability, and concurrency tests for complex web applications and backend services.
Design realistic multi-user and high-scale scenarios using synthetic traffic and multi-client orchestration.
Define performance baselines, SLOs, regression thresholds, and automated quality gates within CI/CD pipelines.
Integrate performance testing with analytics and observability platforms to provide actionable insights.
Analyze metrics, logs, traces, CPU usage, heap snapshots, and memory profiles to identify and localize bottlenecks.
Collaborate with engineering teams to drive performance improvements and turn findings into permanent regression tests.
What We’re Looking For
4+ years of experience building automated test infrastructure, performance tooling, or reliability solutions for production systems.
Strong experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
Experience with sharded or parallelized performance test execution.
Proven experience designing load, stress, or concurrency test harnesses from scratch, including synthetic traffic generation, multi-client orchestration, and result analysis.
Strong understanding of web performance, including rendering and interaction latency, main-thread and event-loop contention, memory management, and garbage collection.
Hands-on experience with Chrome DevTools, CDP, or V8 profiling for identifying performance bottlenecks.
Experience testing distributed and service-oriented backends, including gRPC microservices, PostgreSQL, and Redis/Valkey.
Experience using Playwright for UI performance testing.
Strong understanding of latency and system behavior under concurrent load.
A strong quality mindset: you treat flaky and non-reproducible tests as bugs and turn performance findings into permanent regression coverage.
Experience working in a monorepo environment; experience with Bazel is a plus.
Hands-on experience with AI coding tools, such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar.
Nice to Have
Experience testing spreadsheets, formulas, queries, or reactive dependency-graph systems.
Experience with real-time collaboration systems, including Operational Transform (OT) or CRDT.
Experience testing rules, automation, or trigger-action workflow engines.
Experience with performance testing tools such as k6, Gatling, Locust, or Artillery.
Experience with observability platforms such as Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, Tempo, Prometheus, or Datadog.
