Platform Engineer (Hybrid)
Own the platform behind a global aviation SaaS scaleup
Real infrastructure and real product code
Intermediate - senior
About us
OneReg sits at the cutting edge of aviation and SaaS, helping shape the future of aviation compliance. Our platform brings together real-time oversight, unified information management and smarter workflows, helping aviation organisations move away from manual, complex processes and into a more connected, configurable SaaS product world.
We’re growing fast and scaling globally, and we’re looking for a Platform Engineer to help build, own and mature the technical foundations that everything else runs on.
About the role
You’ll join OneReg’s engineering team in Auckland, working closely with engineers, QA and product across New Zealand, Australia, Dubai, the UK and the EU. It’s roughly a 50/50 split between platform and infrastructure work and hands-on backend and integration code — so you get to own the plumbing and write real product code, not just run ops.
We want someone who takes initiative: not just keeping the lights on, but driving improvements in observability, CI/CD and tooling as we scale into new regions. As a startup scaling up we all wear a few hats, so you’ll move across application code, infrastructure, APIs, integrations and internal tooling as priorities shift.
What you’ll do
Design, build and maintain our multi-region AWS infrastructure (dev, test, prod, and new regions as we expand), including containerised workloads and infrastructure as code.
Automate container patching and vulnerability management to keep our workloads current and secure.
Build and maintain integrations between OneReg and third-party systems, including the backend and API code behind them.
Contribute to our core Python/Django backend and APIs, with the occasional small front-end change to get things shipped end-to-end.
Own and improve our CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and internal tooling so the team can ship quickly and safely.
Own and mature observability, define what good logging, metrics and alerting look like, and build out the monitoring stack.
Take part in incident response and on-call, and help remediate security and pen-test findings across infrastructure and backend.
What you’ll bring
We don’t expect you to tick every box, but you should recognise yourself in most of these.
3+ years’ commercial experience as a Platform, DevOps, Cloud or Software Engineer (open at intermediate to senior level).
Hands-on AWS experience running production workloads (e.g. ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch).
Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (GitHub Actions, Terraform, CDK or similar).
Comfortable owning and resolving production issues across application, infrastructure and network layers.
Solid with a Python web stack (Django or similar) and happy contributing to backend and API code.
Strong written and spoken English.
Enjoys being involved in all aspects of the SDLC.
Nice to have
Experience defining or maturing observability and monitoring (not just using it).
Security or compliance exposure (ISO 27001, SOC 2), or interest in learning it.
Experience supporting data or analytics teams (event pipelines, data lakes, reporting).
Aviation, regulated industries, or other safety- or compliance-critical environments.
Experience in a SaaS multi-tenant environment.
About you
You’re practical and delivery-focused, happy to ship incremental improvements rather than wait for perfection. You like understanding how the whole system fits together, not just one layer. You’re collaborative, open to feedback, and you follow through on the work you start.
Why join OneReg
Own real platform and product work in a global aviation SaaS at the intersection of safety and regulatory technology.
Shape how our engineering teams ship, monitor and secure software as we scale into new regions.
Join a growing international team where your ideas and contributions have visible impact.
