Pay Range

£65,000 to £70,000

Working Hours/Pattern:

Full-time, although we would be happy to consider applicants who are looking to work on a part time basis. What is the role about?

As a Principal Business Analyst, you will lead the digital products business analysis team, shaping strategic outcomes and ensuring that digital products and services and capability meet user and business needs. You will be confident influencing senior stakeholders, setting standards, mentoring other BAs, and working closely with senior stakeholders to define and deliver complex, multi-disciplinary programmes.

This role is pivotal in driving digital transformation, aligning technology strategy to business objectives, and ensuring that investment decisions are underpinned by robust analysis and evidence.

Just some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Lead a small team of Business Analysts within the Digital Products team.

  • Define and own the teams system and technology analysis approach, standards, and frameworks.

  • Lead and high level scoping for complex programmes, ensuring alignment with organisational strategy, policy and digital/ systems detailed design.

  • Provide expert analysis for high-risk, high-value initiatives across multiple platforms and services.

  • Shape business cases, benefits realisation plans, and options appraisals for major systems/ technology/ digital investments.

  • Ensure requirements traceability and value from strategy through to delivery and benefits measurement.

  • Mentor and coach the team analysts on good/ best practice.

  • Define career pathways, training plans, and recruitment standards for the digital BAs.

  • Champion continuous improvement and innovation in analysis techniques and tools.

  • Feed into and support continuous improvement of the wider organisation.

  • Facilitate workshops and negotiations with senior executives, external partners, and delivery teams.

  • Manage complex stakeholder landscapes, balancing competing priorities and constraints.

  • Act as the escalation point for systems and digital related issues across programmes.

  • Ensure compliance with organisational governance, data protection, and accessibility standards.

  • Provide assurance on requirements quality, solution alignment, and risk mitigation.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive experience in business analysis within large-scale digital transformation programmes.

  • Proven ability to operate at a strategic level, influencing senior stakeholders and shaping organisational direction.

  • Expertise in requirements engineering, process modelling, and business case development.

  • Strong understanding of technology trends, cloud platforms, and modern delivery practices (Agile, DevOps).

  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and communication skills.

  • IIBA Qualification

  • A minimum of 2 A-Levels or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma.

  • GCSE English Language at a minimum of a Grade B (or equivalent Level 2 qualification). OR achievement of a Level 2 in Literacy Assessment at interview stage OR International Equivalents.

Desirable

  • Experience in government or regulated sectors.

  • Familiarity with DDaT capability framework and SFIA Level 6 responsibilities.

  • Certifications: CBAP, BCS Advanced Diploma in Business Analysis, Agile BA, or equivalent.

  • Demonstratable commitment to continual professional development, supported by a maintained CPD log.
