Principal Data Analyst
About the Role
MacroHealth is entering a pivotal transformation as we advance toward our One Marketplace vision: a unified, intelligent platform for healthcare data exchange where payers, providers, and partners can transact with clarity and confidence. Underpinning that vision is the Data Foundation, our medallion-architecture Databricks environment that governs how data is ingested, validated, and made available across the business.
The Principal Data Analyst is a strategic individual contributor who combines product management, healthcare data expertise, and analytical leadership. Our ideal candidate will leverage their deep analytical capability to define the strategic roadmap for the Data Foundation, guide ongoing platform evolution, and ensure it meets the growing needs of MacroHealth's products, customers, and business.
At the same time, this role serves as the organization's foremost data subject matter expert, helping shape product strategy by translating complex healthcare data into scalable product capabilities. Rather than simply responding to requirements, this person helps define them, ensuring new features are built on trusted data, sound architecture, and a deep understanding of how healthcare information flows across the platform.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of product, data, and strategy. MacroHealth's data is a high-value strategic asset, and the Principal Data Analyst is responsible for protecting, developing, and leveraging it, holding data quality, lineage, and integrity to the standard the One Marketplace vision demands.
What You'll Do
Product Management, Data Foundation
Define and prioritize the Data Foundation roadmap based on business strategy, product priorities, customer needs, and platform scalability, and partner closely with Engineering to translate those priorities into technical capabilities.
Make roadmap tradeoff decisions, balancing new feature development, platform investment, and technical debt, to maximize long-term business value while supporting near-term delivery.
Continuously evaluate opportunities to improve the Data Foundation's capabilities, performance, usability, and scalability as MacroHealth grows.
Establish success metrics for the platform and use data to evaluate adoption, effectiveness, and investment priorities.
Champion the Data Foundation as a strategic product that remains the trusted source powering MacroHealth's products, analytics, and operations.
Product Partnership and Enterprise Data SME
Serve as the enterprise Data Subject Matter Expert, partnering with other Product Managers, Engineering, and Design to translate complex healthcare data structures into clear requirements and technical solutions across Product Triads.
Advise Product Triads on data availability, feasibility, quality, and architectural considerations throughout the development lifecycle.
Ensure new capabilities consistently leverage the Data Foundation and align with enterprise data standards, identifying opportunities for shared capabilities across products rather than one-off solutions.
Act as a strategic thought partner from prioritization and discovery through delivery and iteration, not simply a downstream reviewer of completed requirements.
Data Strategy and Analytical Leadership
Leverage healthcare claims, pharmacy, invoicing, and financial data to surface trends, risks, and opportunities that inform product strategy and roadmap decisions.
Lead complex analyses that answer high-impact business and product questions where the path forward isn't immediately obvious.
Develop repeatable analytical frameworks that improve decision-making and consistency across the Reporting and Analytics organization.
Partner with leaders across Product, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams to turn data into actionable business decisions.
Improve analytical efficiency through automation, standardization, and scalable data solutions.
Data Foundation Stewardship
Establish and champion enterprise standards for data quality, governance, lineage, and consistency across the Data Foundation.
Partner with Engineering to evolve MacroHealth's Databricks environment and medallion architecture to support current and future product needs.
Protect the integrity of healthcare and financial data as new products, customers, integrations, and markets are introduced.
Maintain a deep understanding of how data flows from ingestion through transformation to consumption across products and reporting.
Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and customer-specific data requirements while enabling scalable innovation.
Leadership and Influence
Serve as a trusted advisor to Product, Engineering, and executive leadership on data strategy, platform evolution, and investment decisions, bringing a balanced perspective across product, technical, and analytical disciplines.
Serve as a mentor and thought partner to the Reporting & Analytics team, sharing deep expertise in analytics, healthcare claims data, and analytical best practices to help strengthen team capabilities.
Build alignment across technical and business stakeholders by communicating complex concepts clearly and actionably.
What You Bring
Required
8+ years of progressive experience in analytics, product management, or data strategy, including leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in a data-rich environment, with demonstrated success influencing business strategy and product direction through analytical work.
Deep fluency in SQL; experience with Databricks and Delta Lake / Unity Catalog strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of healthcare claims data — medical and/or pharmacy — including ICD-10, CPT, NCPDP, and related financial fields
Demonstrated ability to own large, ambiguous analytical problems with minimal direction
Strong communication skills: able to present analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences with equal clarity
Experience working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, or UX — not just responding to requests, but proactively shaping them
Proven ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, navigate ambiguity, and influence outcomes without formal authority.
Preferred
Experience working within a Product Operating Model, partnering with Product, Design, and Engineering in cross-functional triads, including supporting multiple product teams simultaneously as a technical or domain subject matter expert.
Familiarity with invoicing operations and/or healthcare fee-based revenue structures (success fees, client fees, network savings)
Experience with medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold) and enterprise data warehouse patterns
Exposure to data quality frameworks, synthetic data generation, or governance tooling
Comfort working in a Product Operating Model or agile product environment
Prior experience at a healthcare data intermediary, PBM, TPA, or analytics platform company
Why This Role, Why Now
MacroHealth is evolving from a reporting and data delivery organization into a product company built on a unified data platform — one where the Data Foundation is the engine and One Marketplace is the destination. This role exists because we believe data intelligence must be embedded in product decisions from the start, not appended afterward.
The Principal Data Analyst will have genuine influence — over analyses, over how data is governed, and over the direction of a platform that MacroHealth's long-term growth depends on. This is a rare opportunity to serve both as a practitioner and a strategic voice at a company in active transformation.
Compensation: $180,000-215,000 annual base salary plus bonus, equity, 401k match, flexible PTO and very strong medical/dental/vision insurance package.
