Production manager
Job Summary
A Production Line Manager oversees daily manufacturing line operations to ensure safe, efficient, and timely product output. They lead operator teams and coordinate with maintenance, quality control, and supply chain departments to meet production goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily production operations by managing shift schedules, allocating workers to line stations, and meeting production targets
- Enforce workplace safety protocols, conduct hazard audits, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards to maintain a safe working environment
- Monitor product output against specifications, identify defects, and implement immediate corrective actions to maintain quality standards
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, eliminate bottlenecks, and minimize production downtime
- Coordinate equipment maintenance by scheduling routine servicing and collaborating with maintenance teams to resolve urgent mechanical breakdowns
- Track raw material usage and forecast component needs to prevent production stoppages
- Onboard new operators, cross-train staff on multiple machines, and conduct performance reviews to develop team capabilities
- Lead and coach diverse teams of operators, resolving floor conflicts promptly to maintain smooth operations
- Utilize technical knowledge of automation systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to support production processes
- Diagnose root causes of mechanical or process failures under tight time constraints and implement effective solutions
- Employ Continuous Improvement methods such as Kaizen, 5S, and process mapping to optimize workflows and enhance efficiency
