Program Manager, Technology and Applied Composition

San Francisco Conservatory of Music is one of the world’s premier institutions for the study of music, located at the epicenter of art and technology, in the heart of San Francisco. In Fall 2020, SFCM opened the Ute and William K. Bowes, Jr. Center for Performing Arts (the Bowes Center), a landmark building that transforms San Francisco’s arts district with an unparalleled space for students to create, share, and engage with music. SFCM also recently acquired Opus3 Artists and Pentatone Records, giving conservatory students a direct link to some of the most successful artists worldwide and inviting limitless opportunities for connection and collaboration.


The Technology and Applied Composition (TAC) program at San Francisco Conservatory of Music is a groundbreaking undergraduate and graduate music program at the intersection of music and emerging technology. Now in its tenth year, the TAC program is currently looking for a Program Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate has not only a passion for working with students, but excellent interpersonal, managerial, and organizational skills - with exceptional attention to detail. This candidate will coordinate and help develop a world-renowned composition and technology program, and will play a pivotal role in helping to support the TAC department’s events, projects, and development as we grow in the new Bowes Center.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a phenomenal student experience inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Facilitate effective communication between students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the day to day operations of the TAC department.
  • Coordinate logistics pertaining to the TAC department, working closely with all other administrative departments at SFCM.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, documentation and dissemination of departmental processes.
  • Facilitate communication and sharing of assets and best practices between TAC classes to ensure a consistent experience for teachers and students.
  • Administer the departmental calendar of events and communications with students and faculty.
  • Train and support departmental student workers.
  • Serve as an academic advisor and mentor for other department faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to recruit, retain, and mentor a diverse and talented student body.
  • Facilitate partnerships with industry professionals, technological innovators, and artistic organizations to enhance opportunities for student growth and development.
  • Demonstrate and maintain familiarity with audio production and post-production workflows and industry practices.
  • Foster academic and musical excellence, professional development, community, and diversity within the TAC Program.
  • Establish and execute assessment efforts to promote ongoing program improvement and address student needs.
  • Work with the Executive Director to arrange visits from industry leading guest artists, lecturers, and performers.
  • Facilitate budgetary planning and management, as well departmental resources/equipment.
