Project Manager - Western Canada
As a Project Manager you will plan, organize, direct and control the work of construction sites to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and at the highest level of quality.
- Read the technical and administrative specifications of the project to be executed;
- Acquire the necessary technical and administrative information from the persons involved during the submission;
- Obtain blueprints and specifications for construction and compare them to bid plans;
- Report changes to professionals and claim costs;
- Mentor and develop junior staff members, providing guidance on project management best practices and career growth;
- Lead projects in uncharted territory, developing innovative solutions when traditional approaches may not be sufficient;
- Obtain licenses and permits as needed for the execution of the work;
- Draft contracts and agreements, negotiate terms and award them to subcontractors;
- Establish the schedule (dates, main stages of construction, constraints, methodology) and / or the critical path of the project and monitor it weekly;
- Inform the superintendent of the project and discuss with him and the director of the proposed methods;
- Place orders for critical materials, negotiate prices and prepare contract documents, in collaboration with the construction manager, for subcontractors;
- Coordinate and participate in various meetings;
- Establish and maintain a professional and continuous positive rapport with the client, etc.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology;
- Technical background with professional accreditation (P.Eng./ CET) or combination of technical training and/or related experience;
- Related job experience of 5- 10 years with increasing levels of responsibility;
- Previous work experience in Civil Engineering Construction, including dams, powerhouse and generation stations, bridges, infrastructure, and/or heavy civil construction is required;
- Previous work experience on an OPG project or powerhouse experience would be considered an asset;
- Advanced skills in communication and problem solving;
- Initiative and leadership;
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office, MS Project and Bluebeam;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task;
- Skilled in management, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving;
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work;
- Bilingualism – French/English – is considered an asset.
