Qualification
Education: Minimum Higher National Diploma (HND) or Diploma in a technical discipline or equivalent.
Certification: Valid certification to NACE Level II, BGAS-CSWIP Grade I or equivalent.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience as a painting/coating quality control inspector in the oil & gas industry, including 5 years after certification.
- Minimum 5 years offshore experience.
- Good experience in galvanizing, insulation/fireproofing systems, PFP coating, Thermal Spray Aluminium (TSA) inspections, subsea pipeline coating and 3LPP applications.
- Familiar with ISO, NACE, SSPC and NORSOK standards.
- Experience in painting inspection methods and gauges including adhesion/pull-off tests, holiday tests, DFT checks and salt contamination checks.
Primary duties and responsibilities
- Select, recommend and inspect painting/coating materials for pipelines, piping and equipment based on applicable coating systems, applications and methods.
- Implement relevant ISO, MSS SP and NACE standards.
- Review coating specifications, painting/coating procedures and inspection/test procedures.
- Apply relevant codes and standards for painting and coating inspection requirements.
- Attend inspection witness and hold points in accordance with the approved quality control plan and report inspections to the QA/QC coordinator.
- Follow up site NCRs and ensure proper actions and documentation.
- Attend coating system qualification tests and qualification of painters/blasters.
- Inspect painting materials and consumables and monitor paint storage/handling.
- Inspect insulation materials and related consumables.
- Coordinate requests for painting/coating inspections with relevant project team members.
- Carry out stage-wise inspection for washing, blasting, painting and insulation activities and assess compliance with acceptance criteria.
- Report and follow up defects and non-conformities.
- Ensure correct equipment is used with proper inspection and certification.
- Follow up mechanical completion and verify/close punch items in the area of responsibility.
- Review and approve painting/coating inspection reports submitted by the contractor during construction and commissioning.
- Verify calibration of measuring equipment.
