Referral Network Engineer
NexGen Data Systems is seeking a Referral Network Engineer to provide advanced network engineering support with focus on complex troubleshooting, security management, change control, and technical documentation across DHA network infrastructure serving 137 MTFs and 500+ GSUs. The scope of this project is to provide LAN/WLAN network sustainment and operations services to the MHS MTFs and related activities, including DHA headquarters and training locations, inside the continental United States. This includes functions such as network performance measurement and monitoring, assistance with network design and development, network measurement. It also includes customer service in the form of trouble tracking and troubleshooting, at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 level, for escalated trouble tickets and maintenance and sparing support.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Resolve complex LAN/WLAN/WAN technical issues using advanced diagnostic tools.
- Configure and maintain network firewalls, VPN devices, and IDS/IPS systems.
- Lead change management processes and conduct 24-hour change assessments.
- Develop and maintain enterprise network standards and documentation (coordinate with NetMOD).
- Perform advanced troubleshooting at all OSI model layers using SolarWinds, ARMIS, and Ansible.
- Support network security operations and vulnerability remediation (IAVA/CVE response).
- Conduct network performance analysis using MIB, MRTG, and monitoring tools.
- Create SOPs, technical guides, and process documentation.
- Mentor Network Engineer Associates and Network Specialists.
- Support system integration activities and coordinate with application teams.
- Participate in technical working groups and provide enhancement recommendations.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies with escalation to Senior Engineers as needed.
