Risk Analyst

Role profile summary

The Risk Analyst role reports to the Risk Department Director. It supports the risk management function by identifying, assessing, measuring, monitoring, and reporting risks associated with credit financing products provided to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).


The role involves:

1) Analysing credit/investment proposals and identifying risks


2) Every month, measure, monitor, and report changes in:

a. Credit risk exposures

b. Expected Credit Losses (ECL)

c. Entity Level Risk


3) Performing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks on existing and new

customers


4) ECL inputs /Support with external audit process relevant to credit risk reporting

in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standard 9: Financial

Instruments (IFRS 9)


5) Ensuring compliance with and updating the risk department:

a. Policies

b. Procedures

c. Desktop instruction manuals (DIMs)

d. Risk monitoring/reporting/measurement tools and templates


Key role responsibilities

1. Credit / Investment proposal Risk Analysis

 Assist in evaluating credit / investment proposals by analyzing various documents such as financial statements (historic/ projected), company ownership documents, bank statements, asset details and external financing details.

 Document risk study in risk evaluation templates noting key financial and business risks, risk mitigations and rationale for credit risk recommendation


2. Monthly Risk Monitoring and reporting

 Credit risk changes to financing portfolio

 Expected credit loss measurement, changes and reconciliation of key ECL financing portfolio drivers

 Entity level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) risk monitoring and reporting

 Prepare, update and reconcile risk database with dashboards/ core financing/accounting database


3. Anti-money laundering checks

 Perform AML checks of new customers on-boarded

 On-going monitoring of status of existing customers

 Update and monitor compliance with AML policies and procedures


4. ECL inputs /Support with external audit process

 Maintain accurate risk databases with audit trail and rationale for judgements /

decisions taken for PD/LGDs in compliance with IFRS 9

 Coordinate with external auditors to provide required information to substantiate

ECL amounts and inputs in compliance with IFRS 9

5. Updating/ compliance with risk department policies and procedures

 Ensure compliance with risk policies, procedures and DIMs and same are kept

upto date

 Ensure control and proper usage of approved risk monitoring/reporting/

measurement tools

6. Cross-Functional Coordination

 Work closely with credit, collections and finance teams to ensure risk department

functions are smooth


Skills

Qualifications & Requirements


Education

 Professional accounting qualification (CPA/ CA or equivalent)

 Good working knowledge / understanding of IFRS 9

 Bachelor’s degree in risk management (highly preferred)


Experience

 3-8 years of experience in audit assurance (Banking / Financial services)

 3-8 years of experience in credit risk analysis with Bank/ Non-banking companies/

Investment Companies is highly preferred.


Skills

 Understanding of macro-economic drivers impacting credit risk

 Understanding credit risk and financial statements analysis.

 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

 Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel & Power point)

 Good experience working with and analyzing large volumes of data

 Good communication skills in English (Arabic is a plus).
