Road Network Engineer
Job summary
The road network engineer is responsible for the planning, design, operation, and maintenance assessment of road networks within urban developments, communities, cities, and large-scale infrastructure projects. The role focuses on enhancing connectivity, traffic flow, road safety, and transportation efficiency through engineering analysis, design reviews, and performance monitoring.
Key responsibilities
Road network planning & design- Develop road network strategies and transportation infrastructure plans.
- Review and evaluate road layouts, alignments, intersections, and access points.
- Ensure road designs comply with local and international engineering standards.
- Assess road hierarchy, connectivity, and capacity requirements for current and future demand.
- Support master planning activities and infrastructure integration.
- Conduct traffic studies, transportation assessments, and capacity analyses.
- Analyze traffic volumes, flow patterns, congestion points, and network performance.
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend infrastructure improvements.
- Support transportation demand management initiatives.
- Evaluate road network performance using simulation and modeling tools.
- Conduct road safety audits and inspections.
- Identify safety risks, accident-prone locations, and operational deficiencies.
- Recommend measures to improve road safety, signage, pavement markings, and traffic control systems.
- Ensure compliance with municipal, transportation authority, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor road network performance through data collection and analysis.
- Evaluate pavement conditions, road asset functionality, and maintenance requirements.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to prioritize repairs and upgrades.
- Develop performance reports and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Support implementation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
- Evaluate traffic management technologies and smart mobility solutions.
- Coordinate integration of road infrastructure with public transportation, cycling, and pedestrian networks.
- Support initiatives related to sustainable transportation and future mobility.
- Coordinate with government authorities, consultants, contractors, and utility providers.
- Review engineering submissions, technical reports, and design packages.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical guidance.
- Support project delivery from planning through construction and operation phases.
- Prepare technical reports, traffic assessments, and engineering recommendations.
- Maintain records of road network studies, inspections, and improvement initiatives.
- Present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, highway engineering, or a related field. Master's degree in transportation engineering is an advantage. Professional engineer (PE) registration or equivalent certification is preferred.
Experience
4-8 years of experience in road design, transportation planning, traffic engineering, or highway infrastructure projects. Experience with urban developments, smart cities, transportation networks, or large-scale infrastructure projects. Experience working with government authorities, municipalities, or engineering consultancies is preferred.
