Security Engineer

To support this, we are seeking a Senior Security Engineer to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of RNZ’s security environment.

Te Mahi – About the job

To successfully establish and develop RNZ’s security environment and to perform successfully in this role, you will be an experienced security practitioner who will:

  • Lead security monitoring, incident response, and engagement with managed security providers to ensure timely detection and resolution of threats.

  • Monitor emerging cyber threats, assess risks to RNZ, and recommend security improvements and mitigation strategies.

  • Manage vulnerability remediation, device security, compliance policies, and application protection across the organisation.

  • Develop and maintain SIEM detections, automation playbooks, and security controls covering identity, access, and data protection.

  • Maintain security documentation, policies, audit records, and provide security guidance and support to IT teams and kaimahi.

Ōu Pūkenga - About You

  • Relevant IT/security qualification, certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience.

  • Extensive experience in IT security, security engineering, or infrastructure roles with strong security responsibilities.

  • Proven expertise across security operations, identity, endpoint, cloud, vulnerability management, and security tooling (SIEM, SOAR, XDR).

  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks, technical documentation, managed SOC/MDR services, and enterprise security controls.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organisation, and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and dependable, with a continuous learning mindset and a collaborative approach to supporting colleagues and end users.
