JOB SUMMARY
The Security Officer is responsible for protecting people, property, assets, and facilities through proactive security measures, observation, patrol activities, access control, incident response, and enforcement of site rules and policies. The Security Officer maintains a visible presence to deter criminal activity, safety violations, unauthorized access, and other disruptive behavior while promoting a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, customers, and contractors.
This position requires professionalism, sound judgment, strong situational awareness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively during routine operations, emergencies, and security incidents.
Security Officers may be assigned to a variety of client locations and operating environments. Specific duties, equipment, post orders, training requirements, certifications, and work schedules may vary depending on the job site and client requirements. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support operational, safety, security, and customer service objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license if operating company or client vehicles.
- Must have reliable transportation to/from the work site.
- Military, law enforcement, or security experience preferred, but not required.
- State Unarmed Security Officer License or able to obtain.
- May be required to have or obtain a TWIC card depending on job site
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn security-related software systems.
- As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in private security, military service, law enforcement, corrections, emergency response, or other protective services environments.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Experience operating access control, CCTV, alarm monitoring, or visitor management systems.
- Experience working in industrial, critical infrastructure, or remote-site environments

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform all job duties in accordance with DUS and Client policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Security Operations
- Conduct regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of assigned areas.
- Assist with traffic control, parking enforcement, and vehicle movement activities as needed.
- Monitor facilities, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure for suspicious activity, safety hazards, or security breaches.
- Protect company property and assets from theft, vandalism, trespassing, and unauthorized access.
- Maintain a visible security presence to deter criminal or disruptive behavior.
- Inspect buildings, doors, gates, fences, windows, and restricted areas to ensure they remain secure.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, incidents, alarms, safety concerns, and security-related events in accordance with established procedures and site requirements.
Access Control
- Monitor and control access to facilities, buildings, and restricted areas as assigned.
- Verify credentials, badges, visitor passes, deliveries, and contractor access.
- Screen individuals, packages, vehicles, or equipment when required.
- Monitor entry and exit points and take appropriate action regarding unauthorized access attempts.
- Maintain visitor logs and access records
Monitoring and Surveillance
- Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, access control systems, and other security technology.
- Investigate alarm activations, security alerts, or suspicious conditions.
- Observe and report unusual activity, unsafe conditions, or policy violations.
- Document incidents involving security, safety, property damage, injuries, or rule violations.
Investigations and Reporting
- Investigate incidents, complaints, safety concerns, and security violations within assigned authority.
- Gather information through observation, interviews, and evidence collection.
- Prepare accurate, detailed, and timely incident reports, activity logs, and written statements.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information encountered during investigations.
Customer Service and Professional Conduct
- Interact professionally with employees, visitors, contractors, clients, and members of the public.
- Provide directions, assistance, and security-related information when needed.
- Utilize conflict-resolution and de-escalation techniques when addressing difficult situations.
- Promote a respectful, professional, and safe work environment.
- Represent the organization in a professional manner at all times.
Compliance and Policy Enforcement
- Enforce site rules, post orders, company policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Identify and report safety concerns, security risks, and policy violations.
- Maintain compliance with all training, certification, and licensing requirements.
- Follow established procedures for use of force, detention, incident response, and documentation.
Attendance, Reliability, and Professional Accountability
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance and report to work as scheduled.
- Arrive at work and assigned posts on time, fit for duty, and prepared to perform all required duties for the duration of the shift.
- Comply with established call-in, scheduling, and shift coverage procedures, including timely notification of absences, tardiness, or unforeseen scheduling issues.
- Remain at assigned posts unless properly relieved or otherwise directed by supervision.
- Must be available to work day or night shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational and scheduling requirements.
- May be required to respond to urgent operational, safety, or security matters outside of regularly assigned work hours.
- Perform all job duties in a constant state of alertness and in a manner that promotes the safety of oneself and others.
- Perform other duties as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The employee will be required to work at the client’s job site and may be assigned to confined workspaces such as a security guard post, security gate, or patrol vehicles. The majority of work is performed in an industrial/critical infrastructure setting with a variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee’s work requires routine sitting, walking, standing, bending, and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to visually monitor multiple screens simultaneously. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Candidate/incumbent will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and/or fitness for duty test.
