JOB SUMMARY

The Security Sergeant is responsible for overseeing security operations, supervising assigned security personnel, and ensuring the safety and security of people, property, and assets at the assigned job site.

The Security Sergeant provides leadership to the security team, enforces site policies and post orders, and serves as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts. As a working supervisor, the Sergeant performs security duties while directing and overseeing subordinate personnel in responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents. All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with the contract scope of work, DUS policies, post orders, and other applicable requirements.

The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but the company may identify other duties depending on business needs, client requirements, and job site location.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in law enforcement, military police, corrections, or private security with at least 1 year of prior supervisory experience.
  • Ability to lead with professionalism, respect and integrity at all times.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong decision making and incident/event management skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license
  • May be required to have or obtain a TWIC card depending on job site
  • State Unarmed Security Officer License. Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Prior experience in a security related supervisory or management function
  • Prior experience working in a refinery, petrochemical or plant environment
  • Knowledge of security services and developing Security Post Orders in the private sector.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and maintain a Security Officer Training Program
  • Advanced skills utilizing common office related computer programs plus ability to learn proprietary programs unique to client (CCTS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform all job duties in accordance with DUS and Client policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide protection of work site(s), personnel and assets from such events such as assault, theft, vandalism, harassment and other disruptive incidents.
  • Oversee and coordinate security services for the assigned shift.
  • Supervise and direct a team of security officers. This includes, but is not limited to job site onboarding, on-the-job training, coaching and performance management, recognition, and assisting with disciplinary actions. All supervisory responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with DUS policies and applicable laws and within approved empowerment range.
  • Coordinate schedules, staffing assignments, and post coverage to maintain operational readiness, including providing coverage for call-outs, addressing last-minute staffing needs, and assuming temporary responsibility for posts or special projects as required.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and accountability of security uniforms, gear, equipment, and vehicles. Report any deficiencies or concerns to the Captain.
  • Ensure company and site-specific safety programs are followed by all security
  • Respond to incidents, emergencies, security breaches, accidents, and disasters in accordance with established site procedures, including providing rescue assistance when required.
  • Participate in the client's incident management process as required.
  • Conduct incident investigations and complete appropriate documentation/reports.
  • Apply post orders, facility security plan, emergency action plans, and other related guidelines.
  • Ensure all documentation required by DUS and client is reviewed and submitted in an accurate and timely manner (i.e. Timesheets, Daily Security Log Reports, Incident Reports, etc.).
  • Utilize clear and appropriate communication skills while providing information to others, mediating disputes, investigating incidents, and performing other related tasks.
  • Comprehend, evaluate, and correctly respond to information received from a wide variety of sources such as client representatives, supervisors, witnesses, victims, or through a variety of other means such as face-to-face interactions, radio or telephone transmissions, and computer messages.
  • Maintain composure and control in stressful situations and/or emergency situations.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle in a variety of settings and varying weather conditions.
  • Promote, model, and enforce a respectful and professional workplace environment at all times.
  • Complete and maintain all company, client and job required training, licenses and certifications.
  • Must be available to work day or night shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational and scheduling requirements.
  • May be required to respond to urgent matters outside of regular assigned schedule/hours.
  • Maintain adequate fitness for duty to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • May serve as a temporary backup to the Captain, as needed.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner
  • Perform other duties as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The employee will be required to work at the client’s job site and may be assigned to confined workspaces such as a security guard post, security gate, or patrol vehicles. The majority of work is performed in an industrial/critical infrastructure setting with a variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee’s work requires routine sitting, walking, standing, bending, and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to visually monitor multiple screens simultaneously. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Candidate/incumbent will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and/or fitness for duty test.
