About the Opportunity
The Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer — SDLC is the primary technical and advisory reference at the client. Responsible for leading highly complex AI-for-engineering projects from end to end, acting autonomously or coordinating internal and client teams. Possesses a strategic vision of the engineering organization's challenges, multidisciplinary technical depth across the software development lifecycle, and the ability to influence high-level decisions. Serves as a technical ambassador for Indicium, ensuring the quality, value, and expansion of delivered projects.
Their role combines technical depth in AI Engineering — LLMs, RAG, coding agents, MLOps/LLMOps — with a consultative vision and the ability to operate directly within the client's engineering environment. They seamlessly navigate all stages of the SDLC, with generative and agentic AI serving as their primary vector for value delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner directly with stakeholders across Engineering, Platform, DevOps, QA, and Security to understand development bottlenecks and translate them into AI-driven solutions.
- Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI solutions for the SDLC, including code generation and review agents, automated testing and QA pipelines, incident triage and root-cause analysis assistants, documentation and knowledge-retrieval systems, and GenAI-powered developer workflows.
- Modernize client engineering processes by identifying opportunities where AI and coding agents can automate or enhance existing operations — delivering measurable improvements in developer velocity, code quality, deployment frequency, and incident response time.
- Mentor and enable client engineers and tech leads through pair programming, code reviews, technical workshops, and knowledge transfer, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency.
- Collaborate closely with Platform, Security, and Engineering Governance teams to ensure AI-generated code and agentic workflows comply with internal standards, security policies, and change-management processes.
- Establish and promote MLOps/LLMOps and AI governance best practices across the SDLC, including version control, CI/CD integration, production monitoring, prompt/model evaluation, agent guardrails, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor, balancing engineering leadership objectives with sound software-engineering practices and AI engineering rigor.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Software Engineering & SDLC: Strong background in software engineering fundamentals across the full lifecycle — planning, coding, code review, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and observability — ideally with exposure to developer-productivity tooling, static analysis, or engineering metrics (DORA, SPACE, etc.).
- Software Development Domain: Experience working within engineering organizations, platform teams, or DevOps functions, with solid understanding of version control workflows, testing strategies, release management, and technical debt.
- Programming & Infrastructure: Advanced proficiency in Python and at least one systems or backend language (e.g., Rust, Go, Java), plus experience with CI/CD tooling, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud infrastructure for production-scale systems.
- Generative AI: Practical experience applying LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), coding/AI agents, fine-tuning strategies, and evaluation methodologies to solve real engineering problems (e.g., autonomous code review, test generation, agentic refactoring).
- Consulting & Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to work directly with engineering leadership and technical stakeholders, gather requirements, communicate technical concepts across audiences, and influence adoption decisions.
- Advanced English.
- Availability to travel as required (to São Paulo).
- Previous experience in software product companies, platform engineering, or developer-tools organizations.
Nice to have
- Previous experience in consulting or Forward Deployed Engineering/client-embedded delivery models.
- Experience with specialized SDLC domains such as AI-assisted code review, agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor), test automation frameworks, or internal developer platforms (IDPs).
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (Vertex AI, BigQuery) or AWS SageMaker.
- Contributions to the Software Engineering or AI community through publications, conference talks, open-source projects, or technical content.
- Strong technical reading skills for academic papers and AI/ML/software-engineering documentation.
