About the role

The Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management, inclusive of Tasmania Police, has obligations to keep children safer in Tasmania. Mandatory referrals are required in certain circumstances as detailed in the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997.

The Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management also holds key data which other government agencies and organisations rely upon as a safeguard to support protection of children in Tasmania. The SFCU intelligence hub has responsibility for reviewing, processing, value adding and developing intelligence products to assist in the investigation of any matters relating to children requiring an operational response by Tasmania Police.

Working in the SFCU requires resilience, excellent communication and decision-making skills, and an ability to engage with partner agencies and to work collaboratively within a sometimes complex and pressurised environment. An understanding of relevant legislation and policies as they relate to child safety in Tasmania will be required.

You will:

• Undertake the collection, evaluation, and analysis of information – collected through various agency capabilities and functions – to produce actionable intelligence.
• Verify, validate, and link relevant entity data, drawing on police and intelligence systems and other information sources as appropriate.
• Review, assess and triage new information of intelligence value in line with organisational and intelligence priorities.

73.50 hours per fortnight

Period of appointment

Up to 30 June 2028

Desirable requirements

• Completion of a relevant tertiary degree
• Obtain and maintain the required AGSVA clearance.
• Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
• Satisfy pre-employment checks as required.
• Experience in an analytical, academic or intelligence environment.
• Able to work outside normal working hours as required.
• A suitability to handle sensitive information in accordance with government security requirements.
