Senior Manager, Engineering
Job Summary
Job Description
As the Senior Manager of Engineering at Fuze Health/FuzeRx, you are a pivotal leader within our technology organization, bridging the gap between high-level strategic healthcare objectives and ground-level technical execution. This role sits within our core product engineering hierarchy, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. You will lead multiple engineering squads, driving the architecture, development, and delivery of secure, scalable software solutions that power our digital pharmacy and API-driven fulfillment platforms. By fostering a culture of operational excellence and engineering rigor leveraging AWS, PostgreSQL, Rails, and Python, this role directly contributes to our mission of simplifying access to medications, improving patient adherence, and streamlining the digital care journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of 10+ software engineers and engineering managers across multiple agile squads, fostering a culture of continuous learning, inclusivity, and high performance.
Technical Strategy & Architecture: Guide the technical vision for FuzeRx’s core B2B and consumer-facing platforms, ensuring highly available and secure solutions leveraging our primary tech stack (Ruby on Rails, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, PostgreSQL, AWS).
Delivery & Execution: Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle (SDLC) for your domain, ensuring predictable delivery of features that drive API-powered prescription fulfillment and pharmacy logistics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Management, Pharmacy Operations, Design, and QA to translate complex healthcare compliance and patient-care requirements into technical roadmaps and actionable sprints.
Regulatory & Security Compliance: Champion engineering best practices that adhere to strict industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2), ensuring patient data security, secure messaging, and privacy are woven into the fabric of our codebase.
Operational Excellence: Establish and track key engineering metrics (e.g., DORA metrics, system uptime, bug resolution rates) to drive continuous improvement in engineering efficiency and pharmacy system reliability.
Incident Management: Serve as a senior escalation point for critical system outages or security incidents, leading root-cause analyses and implementing preventive measures.
Resource Allocation: Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and cloud infrastructure costs effectively to support sustainable scale.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
Technical Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, architecture, and distributed systems design
Management Experience: 3+ years of direct people management experience, including managing managers or leading multiple concurrent engineering teams
Industry Experience: Previous experience building scalable B2B SaaS or consumer-facing web applications, with a strong understanding of complex logistical or transactional systems
Shift / Site Specific Requirements: Standard business hours; available for on-call escalations as needed
Tools & Tech Stack: Deep architectural understanding and proven experience deploying systems using AWS, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, Python, TypeScript, and JavaScript. Familiarity with collaboration and procurement tools (e.g., Slack, GSuite, Coupa, Jira)
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to build high-trust relationships, manage conflict, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders (e.g., clinical and operational leaders)
Objective Expertise: Demonstrable expertise in Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipeline optimization, and relational database architecture
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science or an MBA with a technology focus
Industry Experience: Prior engineering leadership experience within Pharmacy Tech, Digital Health, or highly regulated environments
Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of healthcare data interoperability, pharmacy management systems, API-led healthcare integrations, or electronic health record (EHR) integrations
Measurable Expertise: Proven track record of successfully scaling engineering teams by 50%+ during high-growth phases, or leading major architecture modernization projects within an AWS ecosystem
