Senior Technical Writer
Overview
Join our team as a Senior Technical Writer and support the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) by producing and maintaining accurate product purchase descriptions for hardware, security containers, and hazardous materials items for GSA's General Products and Security Branch. You will research technical specifications, validate cataloging data, evaluate products for hazardous materials transport classification, and coordinate with engineering stakeholders, ensuring the government's item records stay accurate, current, and compliant.

Work Schedule and Location:
Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm Central Time to coordinate with GSA's General Products and Security Branch office in Fort Worth, TX.
Responsibilities
- Create and update Item Purchase Descriptions (IPDs) through product and market research
- Validate cataloging data across multiple federal logistics systems for accuracy and consistency
- Research and apply the latest published technical standards (ASME, ASTM, ANSI, SAE) to item records
- Identify and eliminate duplicate stock numbers by finding technically equivalent items
- Evaluate vendor deviation/waiver requests and provide technical recommendations
- Evaluate products for hazardous materials transport classification (49 CFR, IMDG, IATA) and assign the appropriate Dangerous Article Code (DAC)
- Evaluate Safety Data Sheets (SDS) against current standards and submit to HMIRS when required
- Prepare recurring status/progress reporting on cataloging throughput and quality metrics
- Participate in technical and program meetings, contributing subject-matter expertise
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related technical writing experience (equivalent substitutions accepted: Master's degree + 4 years, Associate's degree + 8 years, or high school diploma + 10 years)
- Current HAZMAT certification, with supporting documentation and training records available, or ability to obtain prior to assignment start (documentation due within 5 business days of assignment, updated annually)
- Ability to pass a background check required to obtain a federal government ID badge (PIV).
Desired:
- Prior experience with federal cataloging systems (TIMS, EDMS, FLIS, PICS, GSA Advantage)
- Familiarity with ASME/ASTM/ANSI/SAE technical standards research
- Experience supporting a GSA or DoD supply/logistics engineering program
- Experience evaluating Safety Data Sheets or working with the Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (HMIRS)
