About BidOne

BidOne is a local New Zealand company with a truly global presence. Every day, thousands of businesses around the world place orders with their wholesale suppliers through our ecommerce and CRM platforms, spanning five continents.

At BidOne, we care about building solid software and strong teams. We have a collaborative, supportive culture with a shared sense of responsibility for delivering technology that matters. Our software reflects the real needs of the foodservice businesses we support, and because we sit at the heart of their operations, reliability and trust are core to everything we do. "Never lose an order" isn't just a slogan it's how we work, together.

The Role

We're seeking an experienced SDET on a 12-month fixed-term employment to work alongside our permanent QA team on two fronts:

  • Working Across four squads. Be ready to slot into any squad to help them finish deliverables on time.
  • Strategic quality engineering deliverables in the gaps. You'll help drive pieces of work our team hasn't had the runway to tackle: helping the team stand up a Performance Testing framework we can lean on going forward, helping build out robust smoke tests that run reliably in UAT and Production, and helping improve the current E2E frameworks.

This is a hit the ground running role, we need someone who can slot straight into an existing squad from day one and, in the same 12 months, leave behind foundational quality assets the permanent team will use for years.

You'll be creating momentum within the team as we continue our journey towards seamless CI/CD and fully automated pipelines. You are someone with a proven track record in modern Quality Engineering (QE) who is comfortable delivering results inside a fixed-term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

When working across four squads:

  • Slot straight into an active squad and be a quick learner.
  • Hold the line on quality and delivery cadence for the squad you're helping, so the high-priority project stays on track.
  • Develop and design effective test plans so we deliver the right thing to the customer.
  • Work with delivery and business owners to effectively coordinate user acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate security and regulatory checks to make sure our code is safe and compliant before release, and close compliance gaps to ensure high-quality releases.

Your strategic deliverables:

  • Help the team stand up a Performance Testing framework the permanent team can operate independently after your engagement including tooling, reusable scripts, a baseline for key user journeys, and clear documentation.
  • Help the team build out robust smoke tests running reliably in UAT and Production covering the critical paths that must never fail, integrated into the release pipeline, with clear alerting when they do.
  • Help the team improve the current E2E frameworks reducing flakiness, lifting coverage confidence, tightening execution time, and making the suites easier to maintain.
  • Help us move quality earlier into the design phase (Shift-Left) and use monitoring to see how things perform in the real world (Shift-Right).
  • Help the team drive CI/CD, turning "deployment readiness" into a fast, automated reality.
  • AI is no longer an experiment; it's infrastructure. Help drive the use of AI within your team and the wider QA Chapter, applying tools that measurably reduce toil.

Across the whole engagement:

  • Collaborate with product and engineering to streamline the release process and ensure all quality gates are met.
  • Look at our current manual processes and find ways to replace them with smart, AI-driven solutions that give us a high Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Document what you build and pair with permanent team members throughout the engagement so nothing you deliver becomes tribal knowledge that leaves with you.

Who You Are

We care about your track record, mindset, and passion for technology and because this is a fixed-term employment, we need someone who can prove they'll deliver from day one.

  • You have proven experience delivering test automation on comparable enterprise engagements, ideally in a contractor or consultant capacity.
  • You have a strong interest in software architecture.
  • You are excited about AI-powered testing and are already applying it in your daily work.
  • You're a fan of cloud environments (we use Azure).
  • You have a strong understanding of modern automation test frameworks.
  • You aren't afraid to be the person who steps forward to set a new direction or a new standard.
  • You have QA-related certifications and evidence of continuous learning in the QA space.
  • You are a university grad (CS/Info Systems/Engineering) or a self-taught pro with a solid track record in the industry.
  • You have a 'customer-first' mindset, always looking at our tech through the eyes of the people using it.
  • You are comfortable working inside a fixed-term engagement and take documentation, pairing, and handover seriously you leave things better than you found them.

We strongly encourage applications from anyone who is underrepresented in tech. If this role sounds like you but you're not sure you tick every box we'd still love to hear from you.

What We Offer

  • A high-impact 12-month engagement in a team that values quality and innovation.
  • We're all about using the latest tech to solve real-world problems.
  • Competitive remuneration, aligned to experience and scope.
  • Hybrid working environment (3 days in-office time in Auckland required).
  • A respectful, collaborative team with a no-blame culture.
  • A company that values people just as much as code.

We will only consider applications from candidates who currently have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
