Software Engineer (Fleet Management)

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Fleet Management Software Engineer to develop software systems for coordinating AGVs, AMRs, autonomous forklifts, and other mobile robots within warehouse and industrial environments. This role focuses on fleet-level software, including robot assignment, task scheduling, traffic management, mission execution, charging coordination, VDA 5050 compliance, and integration with Warehouse Control Systems and third-party robot fleets. The successful candidate should have a strong software engineering background with good knowledge of mobile robotics, ROS, AMR architecture, and distributed systems. This position does not focus on developing onboard localization, SLAM, perception, navigation, or low-level vehicle-control software. Beyond technical execution, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong engineering discipline and cross-functional collaboration to support standardized, scalable, and maintainable product delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain software services for robot assignments, task dispatching, mission execution, multi-vendor fleet integration, fleet monitoring, robot-state management, WCS integration

  • Develop algorithms for task allocation, robot selection, scheduling, traffic coordination, deadlock prevention, congestion management, and charging allocation

  • Develop and maintain VDA 5050-compliant interfaces, including order, state, instant action, connection, factsheet, and visualization messages

  • Participate in system testing, simulation, commissioning, customer deployment, troubleshooting, and performance optimization

About you

  • Professional proficiency in Python, C++, Java, Go, or another suitable backend programming language

  • Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, concurrency, networking, and object-oriented software design

  • Experience with REST APIs, WebSockets, MQTT, TCP/IP, or other software and industrial communication protocols

  • Understanding of asynchronous communication, timeouts, retries, acknowledgements, message ordering, duplicate messages, and state synchronization

  • Understanding of task allocation, scheduling, robot dispatching, traffic management, resource locking, charging coordination, and mission execution

  • Proven experience contributing to fleet-management, robotics, warehouse automation, or distributed software projects

  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to Engineering, Product, Operations, Management, customers, and external vendors

  • Proactive team member who identifies blockers, manages dependencies, and works effectively across software, robotics, hardware, and deployment teams
