Software Engineer, Website

About Felix
Founded in 2019, Felix is a digital healthcare company that puts the patient in control of their own health and wellbeing. We’re passionate about building technology and beautiful customer experiences to make healthcare more accessible (and more enjoyable) for all Canadians.

Felix is Canada's first end-to-end healthcare experience, providing online treatment, prescription delivery and ongoing care. We deliver care across a growing range of daily health categories such as weight loss, birth control, menopause, erectile dysfunction, acne and more.

About The Role

is how most of the 500,000+ Canadians we serve first meet Felix. It's the top of the funnel, the SEO surface, and the place where every marketing, brand, and growth idea has to actually ship.

As a Software Engineer, you'll work with the Dotcom team on that surface: a custom WordPress block theme, the design system behind it, the custom blocks Marketing builds pages with, and the internal tooling around it — experimentation, analytics reporting, content import pipelines, and QA automation.

This is a small team, so the work is broad and you'll have real input into how we build. You'll take designs from Figma to production, then build the tools that make the next one faster. You'll work directly with Design, Marketing, SEO, and Growth.

You Will:

  • Build the site: Ship pages, blocks, and templates in our custom WordPress block theme. Translate Figma designs into reusable, tokenized components rather than one-off markup, and help keep the design system consistent as the site grows.

  • Grow the platform: Contribute to the theme architecture, custom Gutenberg blocks, and custom plugins. Help make the editing experience good enough that Marketing can build and iterate on pages without engineering in the loop.

  • Build the surrounding tools: Our experimentation framework, analytics and reporting pipelines, content importers, and automated QA. Recognize when a recurring manual task should become a tool, and then build it.

  • Connect the systems: Build and consume APIs to move data between the site and the rest of the business — internal services, analytics platforms, and third-party tools.

  • Protect performance and SEO: Core Web Vitals, image and asset delivery, structured data, and technical SEO.

  • Instrument and measure: Implement and maintain tracking (GTM, Segment, GA4) and A/B tests so Growth can make decisions from real data.

  • Collaborate: Work directly with Design, Marketing, and SEO to scope work, push back where it makes sense, and ship. Review code and help raise the bar on a small team.

You Have:

  • PHP and WordPress at depth: 3+ years in modern PHP 8+, building custom WordPress themes and plugins. Block themes, the block editor, custom blocks, theme.json, custom post types, and the WP data layer — not page-builder or off-the-shelf theme work.

  • Core front-end: Semantic, accessible HTML. CSS at scale — design systems, design tokens, utility-first patterns, responsive layout. Strong vanilla JavaScript (ES6+) and Web Components.

  • Databases: Solid MySQL — schema design, writing and reading queries, indexing, and diagnosing slow queries.

  • APIs: Experience both building APIs (REST, authentication, versioning, error handling) and integrating third-party ones.

  • Tooling and environments: Docker for local development, Vite (or an equivalent modern bundler) and npm for the asset pipeline, and a Git-based workflow with code review and CI/CD.

  • Design implementation: Experience working from Figma and shipping pixel-accurate, accessible interfaces without hardcoding your way around the design system.

  • Performance and SEO fundamentals: Practical experience with Core Web Vitals, asset optimization, caching, structured data, and the technical side of search.

  • Analytics and experimentation: Comfortable implementing event tracking and running or supporting A/B tests, and reasoning about whether a result is real.

  • Communication and self-direction: Able to move work forward on a small team without a lot of process, and to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineering stakeholders.

Bonus

  • AI workflows: Building with LLM APIs, or using AI tooling to speed up your own development and automate internal processes.

  • Cloudflare: DNS, caching and page rules, WAF, or Workers.

  • Terraform: Managing infrastructure as code.

  • Laravel: Or another modern PHP framework outside WordPress.

  • Vue.js: Or another modern JS framework, for internal tools and admin interfaces.

  • Experience migrating a marketing site between platforms (Webflow, Contentful, or similar → WordPress).

  • Headless or hybrid WordPress, or WordPress REST/GraphQL API work.

  • Handling private healthcare data, or working in a regulated/compliance-sensitive environment.

Benefits:

  • Full medical, dental and vision benefits

  • Maternity/paternity policy

  • 4 weeks vacation (3 weeks anytime + 1 week during the holidays)

  • Competitive compensation

  • Stock option grant

  • Remote first, work from anywhere in Canada

  • Professional development opportunities, working closely with founders and the senior leadership team
