DairyNZ’s story
Deliver a positive future for New Zealand dairy farming
Te whakaputa i te anamata kounga mō ngā pāmu kau o Aotearoa
We are full of people who have a passion for delivering great outcomes and creating positive change. We leverage our collective strength by bringing the dairy sector together, helping farmers build more sustainable, profitable, and resilient farm businesses; because a strong dairy sector means a strong New Zealand.
Your opportunity
As a Solution Architect, you will work closely with project delivery teams, engineering teams and business stakeholders to define and guide end-to-end solution designs across applications, data, integration and cloud platforms. You will help ensure solutions are practical, secure, supportable, implementable and aligned with DairyNZ’s enterprise architecture principles, standards and roadmaps.
This role requires demonstrable, hands-on experience architecting and delivering cloud-native applications and enterprise cloud services, with a strong preference for Microsoft Azure. You will act as the Enterprise Architect’s delegated architecture representative within projects, helping ensure architectural decisions are well governed, risks and trade-offs are visible, and intended outcomes are delivered.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Enterprise Architect, you will support the Digital Technologies team, including:
Leading end-to-end solution design across applications, data, integration and cloud platforms, ensuring solutions are practical, secure, supportable and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Architecting cloud-native applications and services, preferably using Microsoft Azure, and supporting practical decisions around hosting, integration, deployment, monitoring, reliability, scalability and cost.
Translating business needs into clear solution options, identifying risks, constraints and trade-offs, and working with the Enterprise Architect and delivery teams to recommend pragmatic decisions.
Providing hands-on architecture guidance to engineering teams, producing key design artefacts, and supporting architecture governance, reviews and assurance activities.
Defining architecture approaches for AI-enabled solutions, including GenAI where relevant, with consideration for security, privacy, responsible AI and operational readiness.
Promoting modern engineering practices and continuous improvement, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, secure development, quality assurance and new ways of working.
What you’ll bring
You’ll bring a passion for designing fit-for-purpose technology solutions that deliver real-world value, along with a genuine interest in supporting the future of New Zealand dairy farming. With hands-on experience architecting and delivering cloud-native applications and enterprise cloud services, you enjoy translating complex business needs into clear, robust and implementable solution designs. As a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, you’ll demonstrate integrity and professionalism, lead through influence, and bring curiosity, clarity and energy to collaborative delivery.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
A tertiary qualification in Information and Communications Technology (or equivalent experience).
5+ years’ experience designing end-to-end solutions across applications, cloud-native applications, data and integration.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, APIs, integration patterns, middleware, data architecture fundamentals and security principles.
Proficiency with architecture and design modelling tools and documentation practices, such as ArchiMate, UML, Sparx EA, solution designs, diagrams and decision records.
Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments with modern SDLC and CI/CD practices.
Proven ability to collaborate with and influence technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred experience includes Azure Solutions Architect certification, TOGAF or other architecture training, architecture governance or review boards, AI-enabled solution design, vendor evaluation, technical due diligence, proof-of-concepts, and leading or mentoring delivery teams through influence.
