Solution Architect (Geographic Information Systems)
GIS Solution Architect (Enterprise Geospatial Platforms)
Are you a GIS specialist who enjoys shaping the architecture behind large-scale geospatial systems? We're looking for an experienced GIS Solution Architect to provide technical leadership and architectural oversight for enterprise GIS platforms — spanning architecture design, cloud migration, system modernisation, security, integration, and day-to-day operational support. You'll play a key role in keeping these platforms reliable, scalable, and future-ready.
What you'll do
- Provide technical leadership and architectural oversight across enterprise geospatial platforms and related systems.
- Drive architecture design, cloud migration, system upgrades, infrastructure modernisation, and operational readiness.
- Plan and execute platform upgrades, cloud migrations, system refreshes, disaster recovery exercises, and infrastructure security initiatives.
- Evaluate and recommend technology solutions aligned with government technology directions — cloud adoption, enterprise architecture standards, cybersecurity, secure-by-design principles, and modernisation of legacy systems.
- Design and support cloud-native and hybrid GIS architectures on AWS, Azure, GCC, or equivalent.
- Design integration patterns using REST APIs, web services, SFTP-based data exchanges, authentication/identity management, and system-to-system integrations.
- Manage geospatial data architectures — geodatabases, spatial data models, metadata, data governance, and data lifecycle.
- Conduct technical assessments, solution reviews, sizing exercises, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of complex application and infrastructure issues.
- Manage vendors and service providers across implementation, upgrades, support, and service delivery.
- Translate business and technical requirements into practical, scalable, sustainable GIS solutions.
What you'll bring
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, Geomatics, GIS, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Technical Lead, GIS Solution Architect, GIS Engineer, or equivalent, covering geospatial systems design, implementation, operations, and modernisation.
- Hands-on delivery of enterprise GIS projects across the full lifecycle — requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, migration, deployment, and operations.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise GIS platforms, preferably Esri ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, Data Store, Web Adaptor, Experience Builder, Dashboards, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro).
- Experience supporting production-critical GIS platforms with high availability, security, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and performance optimisation.
- Strong grasp of government security, compliance, and governance requirements — risk assessments, security reviews, and operational readiness.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical teams, senior management, vendors, and business stakeholders.

Nice to have
- ArcGIS Enterprise administration and troubleshooting, including on AWS/GCC+ environments.
- Experience with geospatial platform migrations and cloud transformation projects.
- Exposure to government geospatial platforms and inter-agency data-sharing initiatives.
- Experience managing geospatial products and services used across multiple agencies and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government security policies and compliance for spatial data and enterprise systems.
