Position Summary:
The Space Mission Assurance Analyst supports the U.S. Space Force (USSF) Mission Assurance (MA) Program Office by providing space operations experience and mission analysis for current, emerging, and future space systems and capabilities. The Analyst functions within the established SpMA Governance Framework and supports SpMA strategy, guidance, assessment, risk management, monitoring, and reporting activities.
The primary emphasis of the position is executing and documenting mission decomposition: the systematic analysis of strategic missions to identify mission objectives, mission-essential functions, supporting capabilities, critical assets, dependencies, interdependencies, and potential points of failure. To support this work, the Analyst interviews mission, capability, and mission-system planners, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and partners to establish and document risk within assigned missions, capabilities and mission systems.
The Analyst identifies and analyzes single points of failure, degradation pathways, resiliency gaps, conditional risk, and vulnerability associated with how capabilities or mission systems are delivered to and employed by the Joint Force and warfighter. This information is documented in the designated SpMA repository and used to develop risk management options for senior leader decision-making.
This position requires strong written and verbal skills, the ability to communicate technical and mission information across the SpMA community and partner organizations, and the ability to gather, assemble, and analyze facts; draw supportable conclusions; and present risk-informed courses of action.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct Level 1-3 analysis and mission decomposition for space missions, ad-hoc mission priorities, wargames, training exercises, operational planning teams, mission-specific conferences, and SME working groups.
- Develop and apply a systematic process for mission decomposition of strategic space missions and identification of risk-to-strategic mission execution in a clear, defensible, and repeatable manner.
- Clearly define SpMA’s strategic missions and mission owners.
- Identify, validate, and maintain mission assets, dependencies, and operational relationships within designated Space Mission Assurance repositories, e.g. FADE.
- Produce a prioritized list of mission-relevant assets requiring repair, upgrades, or replacement to inform other interested communities.
- Document risk-to-strategic mission and associated mission impact in the MA repository.
- Convey SpMA risk-to-strategic mission for Space missions to the DoW MA community, ensuring integration into the community’s processes and procedures, including the CJCS DCA nomination and management processes.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to convey complex mission and technical issues in a clear, actionable manner for senior military and civilian leadership.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to integrate data into strategic recommendations.
- Effective communicator, able to engage confidently across all organizational levels and within Joint/Service working groups.
- Skilled in developing structured plans and solutions to achieve program objectives and support enterprise decision-making.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within small, high-performing teams.
- Proven ability to synthesize large volumes of technical and policy into concise reports, briefings, and recommendations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and collaboration platforms; SharePoint experience a plus.
- Experience with Fusion Analysis and Development Effort (FADE) a plus.
- Professional presence, integrity, and adaptability to operate in high-visibility, fast-paced headquarters environments.
